Castle Season 9 has been cancelled by ABC. The announcement comes just days after Stana Katic was fired reportedly for budgetary reasons. Viewers expected that Kate Beckett would die and Rick Castle [Nathan Fillion] would pursue her killer in Castle Season 9.
After news of Stana Katic’s firing was announced Nathan Fillion was optimistic that Castle would be renewed. What was thought to be the Castle Season 8 finale will now be the series finale and it will air on May 16. Castle and Kate will be seen pursuing LokSat, perhaps Castle’s worst villain ever, and this investigation leaves both Castle and Kate in danger.
Castle Season 9 spoilers indicated that Hayley Shipton [Toks Olagundoye] would take over Kate’s place in Rick Castle’s new partner and love interest. Now that ABC has pulled the plug on the drama there may be a need for an alternate ending, something that brings closure to Kate and Castle’s relationship. Will Kate still die?
As previously reported Nathan Fillion may have been the one behind Stana’s firing. Many wondered if Nathan was tired of sharing the limelight with Stana Katic or if the actress had become increasingly more and more difficult to work with.
