This time there wasn’t a body or a vague missing persons’ report. The IRT knew going in that they were going to be dealing with skilled kidnappers on tonight’s episode of “Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders”.

Peter and Kate Carson had been visiting Casablanca, Morocco as one of their stops on their cruise when they were targeted. The cruise had arranged beforehand to take a few of its vacationers to the marketplace and there Kate had noticed a beautiful she had wanted to buy. However, her husband didn’t want to pay full price so he tried to haggle for it and he was deploying the method of fake walking away to get the seller to lower his prices when the seller told them to stop. He said he had much better things in the back so that’s how he lured them away from the others, but it turns out the seller had help in luring them away.

And the couple hadn’t been at all safe on their cruise. Apparently one of the cruise organizers had been in on luring them away. So the seller had alerted him to the moment he realized he found the perfect prey and that exact moment the organizer decided to call time. Which meant everyone else had to get back on the bus so they could return to the ship. Yet, the kidnapping itself, had been odd. How could there had been someone on the inside that spied on the Carsons and not know that they didn’t have a single cent left besides their pension?

The Carsons hadn’t come from money and they had used all of their life savings just to afford the cruise that was supposed to be part of Peter’s new life in retirement. So that meant their daughter couldn’t afford the four hundred thousand dollars that the kidnappers were asking for one much less to pay twice as much to receive both of her parents back. And so the whole kidnapping thing didn’t make sense until Matt and Clara did some reconnaissance.

Matt later found the seller that had lured the couple away and, while Hassan definitely had a scam going, he was not a kidnapper. Hassan and his cruise insider had come up with a scam that was supposed to take the unsuspecting vacationer to the seller would overcharge them. So that’s what had actually happened with the Carsons, but then the couple had gone down an alley where they had been promised even better prices. And that’s how they were kidnapped.

It seems they had met a well-spoken man who had presented himself as someone used to westerners. So that’s how the couple came to trust him. Yet, that man turned out to be their kidnapper and unfortunately they weren’t the first people he’s ever taken so the IRT were able to find out that there had been other kidnappings. That had asked for money though always ended in death.

The UnSub and his family have steadily been asking for more and more money whenever they kidnap people. So their joint profile had said that they weren’t greedy, but desperate. And so the team was trying to figure out why that was when Clara had come up with cultural profile of the people they were looking for. She said they were nomadic like gypsies and that they were involved in the merchant field so she knew what tribe the UnSubs had all initially belonged to.

Though they didn’t belong to it anymore. The tribe had strict beliefs so they allowed people to leave if they wish to however they didn’t turn to modern medicine whenever one of them was sick. So the team realized one if not more of the UnSubs had a loved one that was sick. And that the only reason they would been trying to get their hands on so much money was if they were treating a prolonged illness which was in fact expensive.

So the guys realized they were working with a small window yet something strange happened. Peter had been dropped off at a hospital with significant injuries that proved he had been beaten. However, none of the other victims had been found with bruises and therefore the team knew the UnSubs were devolving. There was an UnSub that was cold and rational, there was an UnSub that was losing his grip with violent outburst, and lastly there was the UnSub that had dropped off Peter at the hospital rather than kill him.

The last one had been a teenager. He had understood what they were doing was wrong and he had tried to convince the others to let the couple go. So that’s when he set off his middle brother and was told to kill the American when instead decided to save his life. And because of what he did, the IRT were finally able to track his brothers and find Kate Carson.

She had nearly been killed when the response team broke in, but the young man had again stepped in to save her. So that went on to count in his favor after the Carsons were rescued and one of his brothers were shot dead. Apparently the authorities later decided not to press charges against him seeing as he had been the only one to step and do the right thing.

His brother on the other hand, Ben who had been the negotiator, had gone to prison where he will be punished for his crimes. Though what Ben even worse than young man that had to be shot to death because he wouldn’t stand, was the fact Ben had known the treatments weren’t helping their ailing mother and he had only gone on doing what they did to remain in control. While the others had mistakenly thought medicine was almost like magic – capable of fixing everything.

THE END!
