#DanceMoms starts with Kira back and Jill says they had a crappy week. She wants to know if Melissa is going or staying and says rumors are flying. Jill asks Melissa point blank if they’re coming back and she finally says no.

Jill says she finally dropped the bomb that she’s taking both girls and leaving ALDC. Jill says it’s hurtful because Melissa has been lying to her face all along. Melissa says she didn’t have her ducks in a row yet and Holly says she was hiding things from them.

Melissa says she had to work things out with her attorney. She tells them Maddie knows but not Mackenzie. Holly says no one was prepared for Mackenzie to leave. They ask Melissa what she thinks Abby will say and Abby says it will be hard to let them go but she wants them to be stars.

Melissa goes to Abby and says Maddie is really busy and says she appreciates what she’s done for her girls but they won’t be on the elite team after this season. Abby says that’s interesting. Melissa says she loves ALDC and Abby says the rumors are true.

Melissa says she didn’t start that rumor and asks if Maddie is shooting the Sia movie and if she’s doing anything in between. Abby says she doesn’t want to see Maddie on So You Think You Can Dance competing. Melissa says she won’t compete (of course she’s judging).

Abby says it breaks her heart but the show must go on. Melissa comes back out and says Abby was happy and sad. Melissa says she’s tell all the girls at once and Holly advises her to tell Mack first. Ashlee goes to see Abby who tells her that Brynn is the new Maddie. Ashlee is happy.

Now it’s pyramid time and Abby says it’s a busy week. She has Kalani and Kendall at the bottom of the pyramid. She says Kalani was out and Kendall was just fine. She has JoJo at the bottom for not placing with her solo and says Nia was okay.

Mackenzie and Maddie are in the middle but Brynn is up top for being in the winning duet. They are going to Fierce National this week and Abby says group routine is inspired by the new movie The Huntsman Winter’s War.

She says Maddie and Mackenzie will play the dueling sisters, the fire and ice queens. Maddie likes it and says she wants to battle her sister but she’s the winner. There are three duets. She gives one to Nia with Mackenzie called the long goodbye.

Maddie has a duet with Kendall. The last duet is Maddie and Kalani. Maddie has to do two and they tease her about making up for the days she missed. Abby says she wants to get a lot of bang for your buck when you have Maddie dancing.

Then Abby says to Maddie that where she is in life is that she’s somebody already and says she loves all of them and would not have been a dance teacher if she didn’t love kids. She wipes away tears and Holly says them leaving is taking a toll on Abby.

Ashlee says Melissa told them things are changing and Melissa shushes her and says Mackenzie doesn’t know and Abby says this should have been handled differently. Melissa says this is personal and tells Ashlee to stop talking. The moms step out.

Abby goes back to her office and Holly thinks this is not the time for this conversation. The girls all talk and then finally Melissa tells them all that they’re not coming back after this season. She says they’re moving on. Mackenzie is stunned.

Mackenzie says all the girls are her best friends so she’s shocked. Melissa hugs the moms and girls. Kira doesn’t join in but looks teary. Jessa and Ashlee are also not in the hug. The girls ask if the moms can stop fighting now. Holly says Abby is upset and locked herself in the bathroom.

Jill says Abby relied on Maddie for everything but has great kids to count on. Maddie says she thinks Abby has mixed feelings but doubts about her leaving. Ashlee goes to check on her but Holly thinks Abby needs to act like a grown-up.

Ashlee says they lost a whole day of rehearsal to this and it could be more than Abby can handle. Melissa takes Jill and Holly to brunch with her for old time’s sake. Holly talks about Melissa being angry a long time ago in season one and her grabbing up trophies and walking out mad.

Then Jill talks about when she first came on and Holly remembers her cowboy hat and her ranting. Then Jill says she remembers Holly and Abby having a screaming fit. Holly agrees that she lost it. Melissa says she sees them like family because they’ve been together for so many years.

Back at the studio, there are two days left to rehearse. Abby starts group rehearsal but has a box of tissues. Ashlee thinks this has to be like Abby losing her own kids but says dance teams change and kids move on.

Abby has them watch the trailer of the movie to inspire them and we see it on the screen. The girls are excited. Maddie is playing the Charlize Theron part and Mackenzie will be Emily Blunt and the other girls will be warriors.

Holly says Melissa’s announcement took the wind out of Abby’s sails. Jessa says Abby is losing a lot with them leaving. Maddie and Kalani work on their duet. Kalani says Maddie and Mackenzie are like her sisters and she worries what Abby will do after they leave and wonders how Abby will replace her.

The moms talks about why she gave Maddie two duets and Jessa says she thinks she’ll use Maddie as much as she can before she goes. Melissa says she gave Maddie duets with her two best friends but it puts them against each other.

Now Nia and Mackenzie work on their duet. Theirs is about cancer. Holly says Nia is good at character pieces and says this will show Abby that Nia can be a star. Abby gives Nia a note about her dad dying of cancer to help her but then she starts bawling again.

Abby goes to work on Kendall and Maddie’s duet next. Maddie says this is probably her last duet with Kendall and it’s hard since they grew up together. She wants this to be their best duet ever. Holly says they have been duet partners for the longest time.

Jill says Kendall dancing with Maddie is a safe zone because they work so well together and says Kendall works to her level and Maddie brings her up. Now it’s back to the group routine. Jill says Abby has to come up with something amazing this week.

She says this is how Sia saw her and says they came to LA so their kids could be seen and you never know who is there. Abby says the stars of the movie will see this including Chris Hemsworth so they have to win. Now it’s competition day and they’re greeted by screaming fans.

Kira hopes that Kalani and Maddie’s duet wins this. First up is Maddie and Kalani’s duet and it’s beautiful. Nia and Mackenzie go next with their sad cancer number. Theirs is good too. Last is Kendall and Maddie’s duet. Jill is tearful about their last duet.

Maddie says she thinks all the duets were amazing. Abby says she loves that they put three good numbers on the stage. She says Kalani and Maddie set the bar very high and they dance will together. She says Nia and Mackenzie’s was pretty and told the story.

She says Kendall and Maddie were great then asks why Kendall is so much more confident and better when she performs with Maddie. Abby says take that feeling with you into your solos. She says Kendall can do everything she did alone.

Jill says she’s safe with Maddie because Abby won’t scream at her. Ashlee speaks up and says the safety net won’t be there since she’s leaving and Jill thinks she should butt out. Now it’s time for their Huntsman themed group number.

It’s really awesome and the moms are thrilled. Now it’s awards time. Duet awards are first. First place goes to Nia and Mackenzie in the junior category. Holly says she hopes Abby can see that Nia can be a go to girl.

Next is teen duets. Abby freaks and says she can’t watch. She puts her head in her hands. Second place goes to Kendall and Maddie. Kalanie and Maddie take first place. Maddie took first and second place! Now the group awards.

They take second place for their group number. Ashlee thinks Melissa’s announcement messed up their week. Jill blames it on a costume malfunction. Jessa says that could have lost them points. Holly asks what Abby is upset about.

Abby says she’s tired, sick, had a headache and Ashlee asks if it’s about Maddie and Mackenzie leaving. Abby gets up and walks out. Jessa and the other moms agree that Abby has checked out.

THE END!
