‘Days of Our Lives’ Spoilers: DOOL Reboot Coming After Olympics as Ratings Tumble – Can NBC Soap Be Saved?

Days of Our Lives (DOOL) spoilers tease that the NBC soap could be in trouble. Ratings have been consistently tumbling, which definitely isn’t what the show needs right now. Last year, Days underwent a major reboot and the results were actually great.

Salem’s necktie killer storyline was riveting. Many viewers loved the excitement and it allowed DOOL to cut some unnecessary characters. We also watched Steve (Stephen Nichols) go off on an epic adventure. He eventually succeeded in bringing Bo (Peter Reckell) home. The journey gave us action as well as some moments of humor.

Bo’s death was devastating for diehard “Bope” fans, but it was a fitting conclusion to their saga. Since Peter Reckell no longer wished to portray the character, Bo’s demise helped Days of Our Lives get back to tears and romance. We all enjoy some love in the afternoon.

In other words, DOOL was hitting all the right notes of a good soap. Unfortunately, the plan to save Days went off the rails at some point. There’s been a little action here and there, but it’s just not quite at the expected level. Romance has mostly fizzled, especially for the couples that fans prefer.

We’ve seen new characters like Summer (Marie Wilson), Fynn (Alexander Bruszt) and Lani (Sal Stowers) fail since their debuts. They never connected with viewers and the show was forced to cut them loose. Of course, the tape-to-air schedule meant we still had to watch nearly six months of what was taped, but failed.

That brings us to what might be the show’s biggest problem. They save money by taping so much material ahead of time, but it doesn’t give them an opportunity to respond to criticism. They simply have to hope for the best and let whatever they’ve taped play out.

When fans feel like they have no say, they can get angry. That’s never something any show wants. On the other hand, the cost-effective strategy has been what’s helped Days of Our Lives stay afloat over the past few years. If they change that tactic completely, it could lead to the death of the show.

That’s a real dilemma and it’s causing fans to wonder if Days can be saved. There are several factors working against it, but they still have a chance to turn things around. Although we’ve seen numerous departures recently, we have some fantastic returns on the way.

Days of Our Lives spoilers indicate that adjustments are coming after the Olympics this August. Perhaps we’ll get more of what we’re looking for. At least they know that changes are needed.

The fact that DOOL is the only remaining soap on NBC might work in its favor. If they ditch Days for a talk show, it could drive viewers to soaps on rival networks. That could result in even worse ratings at NBC, which sounds like a disaster.

Bottom line, we’re hoping that Days will manage to make fans happy as we head into the show’s 51st anniversary this fall. Be sure to support your soap if you want Days of Our Lives to make it to its 52nd!
