Days of Our Lives (DOOL) spoilers tease that more returns are on the way. First, let’s talk about Sal Stowers (Lani). She wasn’t really given an exit from the NBC soap. Lani simply disappeared and her absence has been ignored by all Days characters. It seems there was a reason for that since Lani is headed back on screen pretty soon.
Lani will likely be involved in an upcoming storyline for the Carvers. Dr. Valerie Grant will return, but someone new will be stepping into the role. Abe (James Reynolds) will quickly hit it off with his former flame. Unfortunately, Theo (Kyler Pettis) won’t be too happy about their reconnection.
Days of Our Lives never fully explored the new dynamic of the Carver clan. Theo needs a chance to get to know his sister. Likewise, Abe needs bonding time with his daughter. When you throw in a problematic love interest, it sounds like we could get some good family drama.
Speaking of family drama, Kim (Patsy Pease) and Shane (Charles Shaughnessy) will be back for Theresa (Jen Lilley) before long. Days spoilers say they’ll support Theresa through a crisis, but they’ll stick around to help with Hope’s (Kristian Alfonso) mess as well. It should be nice to see Shane and Kim again.
In addition, Anna’s (Leann Hunley) return is on the horizon. You can bet that Anna and Andre (Thaao Penghlis) will interact at some point. Anna’s true love, Tony, was also portrayed by Thaao Penghlis. Perhaps some sparks could fly for Andre and Anna this time around. Who knows? Tony could even drop by. Death never seems to be a permanent thing on DOOL.
Days of Our Lives spoilers indicate that Anna will find herself stuck in some trouble during her stint. She’ll need her daughter and son-in-law to help out. Carrie (Christie Clark) and Austin (Austin Peck) will make a return trip for some Salem turmoil. They’ll have a limited run in early 2017, but they’ll definitely affect Anna’s storyline.
In the latest issue of Soap Opera Digest, DOOL’s head writers opened up about the trend of these popup visits. Dena Higley and Ryan Quan like the idea of including as many fan favorites as possible, but finances are always a concern. Most soaps are tightening the purse strings lately, so it makes sense to do brief stints.
“With budget constraints, that’s the only way to really see these people and have them come and go in a fun way,” Higley said. “So we see it as more of an open door policy.” Of course, it’s worth pointing out that some characters will be in town longer than others. For example, Kim and Shane will get a decent arc. The needs of certain stories will be a factor in the length of these returns.
Don’t forget that Belle (Martha Madison) and Shawn (Brandon Beemer) will show up in Salem again. Shawn should get a head start, but Belle will follow down the road. DOOL buzz hints that some surprise returns could be coming, too. We’ll give you updates as other news emerges.
