It had started with an accident. Five friends had been teenagers when they had taken off in a car that hadn’t belonged to any of them and unfortunately they had driven it into another vehicle. So it had been an accident, but there had been a few things leading to it.

Jessie who had been a young girl at the time had had a mother that had been drinking. So when Jessie’s friends saw that her mother had forced her into the car and was going to drive them both while under the influence, one of them intervened. Jackson had gone up Jessie’s mother and had forced the woman to hand over the keys before she either herself or her daughter. Yet, to get away, Jackson told the other guys to get into the car and they had all driven off to some place they thought Jessie would be safe.

But that’s how the accident happened so Jackson had continued what he set out to do. He protected Jessie and told her to run off before the cops came. Which they did. Only the police ended up arresting not just Jackson who had been the illegal driver, but all his friends as well. And so that’s how the four boys were shipped off to a juvenile correction center.

Twenty-five years later, however, the guys had pretty much moved on with their lives and had tried to forget what had happened at that correction center. So it came as a surprise to Jackson one day to suddenly find his old friend Gil and Tony in his office. Jackson had become a high powered attorney and he had been in the middle of a huge case yet the other guys had told him that they needed his help with their other friend Boots. Boots had been charged with assault with a deadly weapon and a needed a lawyer.

So Jackson had tried to tell the guys that he had been busy and that he could refer them to someone he knows though they didn’t want someone else. They wanted Jackson and so they told him who Boots had assaulted. Boots had been carrying out a delivery job for the company he worked with when he had run into Darryl. Darryl being someone they had all gotten to know at Quitman.

Quitman had been the correctional facility they had been sentenced to for nine months and that facility had been called the worst place on earth. However, Jackson didn’t want to remember that place nor did he wanted to attach himself to the revenge plan that Gil and Tony were hatching because his friends didn’t want to just stop at protecting Boots. They also wanted to hurt everyone involved with what happened to them at Quitman.

Though Jackson did want to help Boots so he was going to represent him. It’s just that other thing he didn’t want to take part in and that’s because it was a crime. So Jackson had pretended in front of the others that he wasn’t still having nightmares and that he had put the past behind him. Only there were a few things that he remembered.

Like how the guards had beat them and how they had forced the kids into fighting each other. But the one thing he couldn’t shake was how the warden threw parties at a house nearby the facility where some of the boys offered up to the winner of these fights to him and his friends. So the men that came out of Quitman had plenty of reasons to hate the people attached to the place yet some like Darryl and Terry had cooperated with the guards and the warden. And it turns out they were all still in business together.

Darryl and Terry were running drugs and they were using their past with the warden that was now the Lieutenant Governor to get him to look the other way. So they hadn’t liked it that Boots had drawn attention to Darryl and that’s why they arranged for Boots to be shanked in prison. Yet, a detective from Gang Squad no less had later showed up at the hospital because she wanted to know if Boots knew something about the man he had attacked.

So the attack on Boots is what caught the police’s attention and that had given Jackson an idea. He eventually called the detective to ask some questions and she had told him about the older guys that had been at Quitman were now running a drug operation. And that they had gotten mixed up with the cartel. Only Jackson’s new idea of getting all of their enemies arrested didn’t seem like it was enough after Boots died.

Boots had survived the initial injury and he had been recovering, but then he died in the hospital. So while Jackson told the others about his plan and how they were going to bring everyone done, most especially Warden Carroll, he went to bat for Gil and Tony after all three were later questioned by the detective he had talked with. It seems she wanted to know who had followed Darryl back to his house and fired three rounds in him.

Though, Jackson wasn’t a saint. He had once found a guard that had whipped him at Quitman and he had beaten the other man up so bad that the guard mostly died where he and Jessie had left him. And so Jackson could be just as violent as his friends when he wants to be.

THE END!
