Garry Shandling Death Investigation: Garry's Personal Doctor Suspicious, Won't Sign Death Certificate

Garry Shandling’s personal doctor is suspicious as to the comedian’s cause of death and will not sign the death certificate. The Los Angeles County Coroner has launched an investigation into Garry’s death.

TMZ reports that investigators from the coroner’s office have submitted blood work from the emergency room where Garry died. Subpoenas have been issued for the doctor’s records.

The information provided to TMZ reveals that Garry’s primary care physician has “repeatedly refused to sign” the death certificate. Garry personal doctor reportedly saw Garry over a year ago and says at that time Garry was healthy.

Because Garry’s doctor won’t sign the death certificate the Los Angeles County Coroner’s office had to step in and begin an official determine Garry’s cause of death. It was previously reported that Garry Shandling died from a massive heart attack.

“The Larry Shandling Show” star was transported to the hospital on Thursday, March 24 after a 911 call came from his home. Garry reportedly was still alive when he arrived via ambulance and died in the Los Angeles area hospital.

It has previously been reported that a cousin of Garry’s, Mike Shandling, said the comedian hadn’t been feeling well a few days before his passing. Garry Shandling never married and was fiercely protective of his private life. It is not known how close Mike was to his cousin Garry.

Friends Bob Odenkirk and Kathy Griffin had been out on the town with Garry on Sunday, March 20. It is not clear if either was aware that Garry was suffering from any illness at the time of the evening out with him.

The HBO original comedy The Larry Sanders Show made Garry Shandling a comedy icon who was nominated for 19 Primetime Emmy Awards and two Golden Globe Awards.

The Larry Sanders Show was included on TV Guide’s list of the 50 Greatest Shows of All Time. It was the lone HBO show included on that list. Time magazine placed The Larry Sanders Show on its list of the 100 Best TV Shows of All Time.

CDL is so sorry that we have lost this great comedian – we wish his family and friends our condolences. As the investigation proceeds CDL will provide updates on the Los Angeles County Coroner’s findings into the cause of Garry’s death.
