New General Hospital (GH) spoilers reveal that Julian Jerome’s (William deVry) blackmailer is the same person that put the bomb in his car and that’s trying to sell GH to turn it into condos. But who has Julian running scared and is calling themselves “Oscar Jessup”? GH spoilers tease that it’s Duke Lavery (Ian Buchanan)!
The obvious bomber suspect was Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) since he wanted retribution for Duke’s death after Julian’s botched trial. But revenge is also what Duke wants if GH brought him back from death – which they have done many times. Duke has been resurrected before, so it could be happening again.
The name “Oscar Jessup” is a clue to who it is. Oscar was associated with the Jerome mob glory days and supposedly died in 1990. But you know who else was part of the Jerome organization at that time? Duke! He was neck deep with Victor Jerome, Julian’s father, and would have known Oscar so he could easily pretend to be him.
Most GH fans from recent times know Duke as the rakish Scot that loved Anna Devane (Finola Hughes) and was part of the Corinthos mob organization. But 25 years ago, he was hard-core Jerome mob and that was a big problem to Anna when they first got involved. The mob mess led to Duke’s “death” and resurrection in past years.
Duke planting a bomb on Julian’s car makes total sense. Since he’s a tough businessman, selling off the hospital as condos could be a way for him to rebuild his fortune. Curtis Ashford (Donnell Turner) was close to finding out who set the bomb and that would lead him directly to Duke, if he is back, and he’s not ready for that reveal.
That’s why Duke is using the name Oscar instead of his own but he’s dropping clues. Oscar was a known mob guy that was scary and had devastating skills. Using that name would inspire fear in anyone who knows the history – as Julian does. Ava Jerome (Maura West) wasn’t in their dad’s business, so the name should be meaningless to her.
Jason Morgan (Billy Miller) found out the name Oscar but Sam Morgan (Kelly Monaco) just told him he’s dead. That won’t stop Jason who will keep pressing to find who’s responsible for the car bomb. In coming days, he’ll team with Curtis to work the case and that means more pressure for Julian to cover for his blackmailer.
This week, Julian meets with a guy about the GH condo project and we’ll find out what more “Oscar” has planned and why he’s got Julian on a chain. It’s doubtful we’ll see a Duke reveal soon, since GH loves to string things out but there is a mastermind forcing Julian’s hand. We’ll soon find out why he’s so scared and obeying his blackmailer.
Julian doesn’t have Carlos Rivera (Jeffrey Vincent Parise) protecting him anymore which is Julian’s fault, but that means all he has now are generic thugs with no skills to take on Duke. Julian is right to be scared, based on Oscar’s reputation, but will be more terrified when he finds out who’s really behind the blackmail – Duke.
