Tonight on CBS Hawaii Five-0 continues with an all new Friday February 26, season 6 episode 16 called, “Ka Pohaku Kihi Pa’a.” and we have your weekly recap below. On tonight’s episode, Sang Min, Five-0’s sketchy longtime confidential informant, is accused of murder.

On tonight’s episode as per the CBS synopsis, “Sang Min, Five-0’s sketchy longtime confidential informant, is accused of murder, so McGarrett asks his old friend Odell Martin to defend him.”

McGarrett was forced into asking for a favor on tonight’s all new episode of “Hawaii 5-0” when an informant of his had been accused of murdering the man he was supposed to be gathering intel on.
However, that favor had actually been for the accused. Sang Min had gotten released from prison ten days ago as part of a top secret op. He was supposed to infiltrate the current human trafficking game on the island and reacquaint himself with one of the leaders running it. A man named James Lam. Who had initially got his own unsavory start after Sang had given him his first job in the business.
Only this op of theirs went south when James had soon showed up dead and it had been Sang caught standing over his body, holding a gun. And, well, that had looked pretty damming. So following that, no one was willing to listen to much less believe Sang’s story about coming up on the scene shortly after James had died.
And that’s why McGarrett was forced to call in a favor. McGarrett and his people were the only one that truly seemed to buy the fact Sang was innocent and so they needed someone to defend Sang Min because even the public defender wanted to throw Sang to the wolves. Though, there ended up being only one lawyer that McGarrett could personally think of. And the man hasn’t study law since passing the bar years ago.
But for McGarrett, Odell Martin was willing to get his feet wet again. Thus he took Sang’s case and was then stuck trying to find a way to prove Sang’s innocence because it wasn’t looking good. Sang had technically been a human trafficker himself and he had nearly killed the very same people that believed he was innocent.
So the one thing that Odell wanted more than anything was to keep Sang from testifying. Yet Sang had been very firm when he demanded otherwise. He said it was his right to speak towards his own defense and therefore Odell simply had to teach him how to curb what he says rather than just announcing things.
Like how he knew Kono was with the police when he first met her, but had demanded she stripped down mainly because he wanted to see her naked and not because he was looking for a wire.
And so it was things like that Odell had to worry about. He knew that Sang was already unlikable however Sang somehow tended to make things worse for himself by being too cavalier. Which was just another thing that Odell had to combat.
For instance, it was bad enough that Sang occasionally went off at the mouth but one of the things they learned from mock trial was that Sang didn’t actually mourn James. And it could be said that he had more reason than anyone else to want James dead seeing as James had managed to stay out of prison while he had gotten locked up. So if Sang couldn’t even bother to pretend he missed James in front of people that believed he were innocent, what was going to happen at trial?
Therefore, proving Sang’s innocence was an uphill battle and Odell began to fall apart the closer they got to trial.
Which was yet another thing against them. The trial had gotten pushed up because the judge on the case had judged Sang once before. And that meant Odell barely had days to create a defense with what was essential nothing, but he had also to contend with a judge that was biased against Sang.
So the first few hours of trial were rocky at best and it had looked like Odell wasn’t up to the task. But, eventually Odell noticed something about his client that helped towards the man’s defense. He caught Sang narrowing his eyes as if he needed help seeing what was in front of him. And that’s when Odell got the bright idea to pull Sang’s medical records.
And apparently Sang was nearsighted. He couldn’t see long distance mush less be able to shoot long distance and the Medical Examiner had even confirmed that James Lam had been killed from sixty feet away. So using Kono’s past experience as a sharp shooter as well Sang’s medical records from prison – Odell was able to prove that Sang couldn’t have made a shot like that in his dreams.
Hence the jury ended up voting to acquit Sang because it turns out he had been innocent of the crime. And as for Odell, he finally won his first case and later he got to cut off all of Sang’s hair as part of an earlier agreement between the two men.
