Is Ian Somerhalder the reason why Nina Dobrev is not returning to ‘The Vampire Diaries’ for it’s final Season 8? That’s what fans are thinking as Ian himself hinted that Nina won’t be returning to the small screen anytime soon.
In a new interview with Variety, Ian was asked about Nina’s possible return. He told the publication, “I don’t know. I have zero idea. As a producer, I do have a lot of information and then there’s a lot of information I don’t have. I want the audience to be happy, but I also am very pro human. I don’t think these guys should have the ability to wreak havoc, kill everybody, ruin the lives of so many and then get out with a happy ending. I think the happy ending is that we got to go on this amazing ride with these two guys. They’ve lived long enough.”
It wouldn’t be surprising if Ian Somerhalder was the one to block Nina Dobrev’s return to ‘The Vampire Diaries.’ Season 8 He knew that if Nina were to return, it would over shadow the show’s series finale if he had the power to do so – which he doesn’t. That’s because some fans simply can’t get over the fact that Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev are no longer today.
The ex-couple dated while they were filming the hit show for a couple of years until they broke up back in 2013. Seeing the ex-lovers on screen together would make more headlines than the actual show, and that’s simply not what Ian wants.
Then again, it doesn’t look like Nina is begging to come back, either. Fans would absolutely love to see Nina Dobrev return to ‘The Vampire Diaries.’ After all, it’s the show that helped make her a household name. But for Nina, she knows that if she did reprise her role as Elena Gilbert, she would end up taking two steps back in her career.
Nina Dobrev’s worked so hard to get where she is right now and doesn’t want to jeopardize any possible Hollywood opportunities that will further help her transition on to the big screen. Sources say that’s why she didn’t put any effort into trying to work out a deal with producers about her return.
