Juan Gabriel Dead: Mexican Singer-Songwriter Dies Of Suspected Heart Attack At Age 66

Juan Gabriel is dead. News of Juan Gabriel’s death has taken the entertainment world by surprise. The legendary Mexican singer and songwriter has died at the age of 66 of an apparent heart attack, according to reports on Sunday.

KTLA reports that Mexican President Enrqiue Pena Nieto made the announcement of Juan Gabriel’s death via Twitter on Sunday afternoon. The statement read, “I regret that death of Juan Gabriel, one of the great musical icons of our country. My condolences to his family and friends.”

The chart topper’s death comes only a few days after his last performance in Los Angeles at The Forum in Inglewood on Friday night. He was in the middle of his sold-out MeXXico Es Todos Tour. He was scheduled to perform in El Paso, Texas for his next stop but suffered a major heart attack at his home in Santa Monica, California.

Born Alberto Aguilera Valadez, Juan Gabriel was mostly known as Mexico’s top entertainer in the music industry, with an illustrious career than spanned several decades and more than 100 million album sales.

His signature mariachi songs and ballads were well known hits with his fans in both Mexico and Spanish speakers in the United States. His greatest hits have include “Querida” (“My Dear”), “Se Me Olvido Otra Vez,” “Abrazame Muy Fuerte,” and “Hasta Qu Te Conoci,” among many more.
