Dressed in sporty style safety gear Kate Middleton, accompanied by professional sailor and Olympian Ben Ainslie, is training on a Land Rover CAT in Portsmouth. Photos show The Duchess of Cambridge welcomed to the docks by Land Rover’s head of research Tony Harper on Friday, May 20.
Kate Middleton arrived for the opening the 1851 Trust Visitor Centre wearing a military-inspired cream blouse and dark navy blue suit. In addition to the Land Rover CAT training Kate unveiled a mural that she had contributed to the centre during a previous trip.
The opening of the Trust Visitor Centre included revealing the new Tech Desk at the Education Centre.
Many young people we on hand to meet with Kate and eager to learn more about sailing with the patron of the 1851 Trust. There are several educational workshops available that engage students in the science, technology, engineering and math involved in the Land Rover BAR’s challenges.
The 1851Trust along with Land Rover BAR’s goal is to inspire and encourage the next generation of sailors and those who wish to work in the marine industry.
The Duchess of Cambridge spoke to an audience of school children from Brune Park School. Kate the youngsters if they had ever been sailing and if so did they enjoy the sport. If not, were the children looking forward to learning more about sailing.
Kate Middleton has previously stated that being the Royal Patron of the 1851 Trust is a delight. Kate shared that she was fortunate enough to have enjoyed sailing from a young age. Kate has also stated that she believes sailing is a great way of providing young people to become more confident.
A sailing project will be launched during Kate Middleton’s visit. One is in partnership with UKSA charity and the Andrew Simpson Sailing Foundation and Kate will see the boats that will be used.
The programs are aimed at involving children and young adults from all walks of life in the technology of the sport of sailing. Come back to CDL for all you Royal news and views!
