Leonard Cohen Dead: Poet and Singer Dies At Age Of 82

Leonard Cohen is dead. There are new reports that say legendary singer and songwriter Leonard Cohen has died at the age of 82. A statement was made following the news of his passing on his Facebook account by Sony Music.

“It is with profound sorrow we report that legendary poet, songwriter and artist, Leonard Cohen has passed away,” the statement read. “We have lost one of music’s most revered and prolific visionaries.”

Leonard Cohen’s death comes only a few short weeks after the release of his latest studio offering, ‘You Want It Darker.’ Some of his greatest hits have included ‘Suzanne,’ and ‘I’m Your Man,’ as he was often called the ‘high priest of pathos’ and the ‘godfather of gloom’ in the music industry mostly because he was often prone to depression throughout his life, which was reflected in the lyrics of his songs.

Leonard Cohen was born in Montreal in 1934 to a Jewish family of considerable means. Leonard began his artistic career as a poet and used to read his work in Montreal cafes and delis before adapting his work to folksinging in the 1960’s. Leonard Cohen also worked with some of the biggest names in the industry, including James Taylor, Willie Nelson and folk singer Judy Collins.

What’s more, a memorial will take place in Los Angeles later this week. Leonard Cohen’s family has requested privacy during their time of grief. He leaves behind two children, his son Adam Cohen and his daughter, Lorca Cohen. The artist never married although he did enjoy a rather lengthy relationship with Rebecca De Mornay in the 1990s.

CDL expresses it condolence to Leonard Cohen and his family – may he rest in peace.
