SECNAV was invited to a very posh sort of party on tonight’s episode of “NCIS”. One that the Director knew he couldn’t take Gibbs so he decided to go with DiNozzo. However, Agent DiNozzo hadn’t expected the reception he was going to get at that party when people heard his name and just assumed he should be avoided.

In fact, DiNozzo was still wondering how two senators had heard about him when one such senator handed him an envelope filled with thousands of dollars. Yet DiNozzo hadn’t gone to Gibbs or even the Director with his concerns or with that envelope of cash. So he was trying to figure out what to do and was actually in the middle of asking for help from Bishop and McGee when Gibbs came running into the office. And reported that there had been a body identified as Special Agent DiNozzo found out in Virginia.

So it was weird. Though, it didn’t take DiNozzo long to make a connection between what happened to him earlier and the man that had stolen his identity. And then apparently used it to blackmail more than one person if the briefcase found in the back of that car was anything to go by.

But Gibbs’s first question had been about the money. He had wanted to know and had later asked DiNozzo why he hadn’t he reported that Senator Bransfield had given twenty thousand dollars. Gibbs for one thought that particular piece of information should have been mentioned before they went over to collect Phony Tony. And pretty much everyone (including Director Vance) had wanted to know why Bransfield was willing to pay?

The Phony Tony had turned out to be Scott Byers. Byers had been a part-time waiter and part-time Uber driver yet he had managed to steal DiNozzo’s indetity and had also ran up some credit card debt. However, the team had been mostly concerned with what Byers did to the Senator Bransfield after he couldn’t open up a new credit card in DiNozzo’s name. So they had asked the Senator to come in.

And once the situation had been explained, the Senator had been more than relieved to find out his blackmailer died however he refused to help with the investigation. The Senator merely told the guys good luck and he then left their office belieiving his secret was finally safe. Yet it wasn’t. Abby had stayed outside of the door while the Senator was talking so she knew he wasn’t going to hand over information and so she decided to hack him.

She broke into his phone digitally and she found the guilty email from the man claiming to be Tony. It seems there had been a picture of the Senator with a lovely wife that was not his wife. So the blackmailer had asked for twenty thousand and had even had the nerve to sign the email with “Love, Tony”. And if that wasn’t enough then Abby had still been logged in when Bransfield’s blackmailer sent him a new email.

The new email said that he had missed their drop-off and that he was going to get a second chance before the photo was released. Although, everyone had thought this problem was going to go away after Phony Tony died. So it proved to be disappointing to find out there had been more than one Phony Tony out there. And that DiNozzo hadn’t realized that three different people had stolen his identity.

Abby had traced the email to a server and so that’s how she found out that Senator Matheson as well Senator Kelly were also being blackmailed. But DiNozzo had come up with solution to capturing all the Phony Tonys out there in one fell swoop. He had McGee show up at the next money drop as Senator Matheson and Gibbs as Senator Bransfield seeing as the only senator that was safe with his blackmailer dead was Senator Kelly. And that way they could actually capture the blackmailers in the act.

Which they did, but it still ended up upsetting DiNozzo. DiNozzo had unfortunately been the one to interview the men pretending to be him and he had found out that they had been hired by some woman to impersonate him for five grand. Yet, the truly upsetting part had been when the guys told DiNozzo that he had been easy to copy.

They mentioned how he’s been at the same job and same apartment for years. And how he didn’t have a wife or a family of his own. So the guys had certainly driven it home when they said that he was predictably boring and that he didn’t have a life. Though DiNozzo got the last laugh when he threatened them with twenty years in jail if they didn’t help NCIS catch the woman that hired them.

So the fakes offered to do what they could. But all they could do was show up where they were supposed to leave the money for their boss. Therefore, Abby had to make sure that the cameras were trained on the locker that the woman had to open and then she had to hope the woman would turn around in order to face the cameras.

And thankfully she did. The woman that had stolen DiNozzo’s identity had been Leah Ramsay. The socialite that DiNozzo had tried to date though their first date had been a bust. So DiNozzo had promptly forgot about her until he saw that it had been her in the security footage and then realized he had no way of contacting her.

DiNozzo had thrown her email after their first date and Bishop had later tried to find her, but there was no Leah Ramsay matching the woman’s description. So Leah hadn’t even been her real name and so all they did have on their mystery woman had been her fingerprints. Which she had left on the bottle of wine that DiNozzo had only bought to impress her with.

So Leah’s real name had been Elizabeth Elliott. Elizabeth having gone off the grid since 2009 although she had a rap sheet a mile long before she did her disappearing trick. Apparently she was wanted for fraud and embezzling so they thought it was going to be a closed case once they brought her in. Yet, she surprised them.

When NCIS finally caught up with Elizabeth, she hadn’t fought them. To be honest, she had wanted to make a deal. Elizabeth told Gibbs that she was willing to testify against Senator Kelly if he made a deal with no jail time. So Gibbs could have let her get away with everything yet he chose to find the person she had hidden inside of Kelly’s office because that was the only she could have blackmailed him.

And so after they found her accomplice, the team were also able to find Byers’s killer. It turns out he was going to tell so Elizabeth’s friend ran him off the road to keep their blackmail a secret.

THE END!
