Pierce Brosnan Returns To TV After 30 Years In New AMC Western ‘The Son’ - Will It Flop Or Flourish?

Pierce Brosnan is returning to TV. It has been over 2 ½ decades since Pierce Brosnan’s iconic Remington Steele gig, which ended its run on NBC in 1989. Although e did do a very brief cameo in the animated series ‘The Simpsons,’ we’re not going to count that and we’re sure Pierce is hoping everyone forgets about it. Deadline confirmed today that Brosnan has just been cast in AMC’s new series, ‘The Son,’ a Western drama. The James Bond actor will be playing the part of the lead character, Eli McCullough.

AMC previously reported that Sam Neill would be playing the lead in ‘The Son,’ but after Neill dropped out of the series, the network was able to nab Pierce Brosnan. Of course, the actor’s first TV gig in 30 years will definitely help create some buzz for the new show, which starts production this week.

According to reports, Pierce Brosnan will make his AMC debut in 2017. TV Guide shared some info on the exciting new TV show and revealed that ‘The Son’, “follows the rise and fall of a powerful Texas family. Brosnan will play Eli McCullough, the family patriarch, who was born on the day Texas became an independent republic and is having trouble adjusting to the now not-so-Wild West.”

It sounds like the perfect role for the Remington Steele alum! AMC has pretty much cornered the market on cable westerns these days, and ‘The Son’ has not even begun filming and is already receiving tons of praise and James Bond fans are eager to tune in. It looks like the network may have another huge hit on their hands. That is … as long as Pierce Brosnan doesn’t drop out like Neill did.
