Prince's Ex-Wife, Mayte Garcia, Reacts to Ex-Husband's Death

Prince’s ex-wife, Mayte Garcia, has responded to the news of her ex-husband’s death. As is to be expected, the woman who was the mother of Prince’s only child is devastated. Mayte shared a photo on Instagram and wrote, “I can’t even think of the words of what I’m feeling. This man was my everything, we had a family.”

The couple’s son, Boy Gregory, was born in October 1996. The baby died when he was only one week old from Pfeiffer syndrome, which is a rare genetic disorder that affects the bones of the skull, hands, and feet.

Reacting to the news of Prince’s death, Mayte wrote, “I am beyond deeply saddened and devastated…I loved him then, I love him now, and I will love him eternally…He’s with our son now.”

Another message followed from the dancer and actress cancelling a belly dancing class set for Saturday, April 23. “My apologies to have to do this…thanks for understanding,” Mayte Garcia wrote.

Mayte first met Prince in 1990 when she was 16-years-old and later became one of his tour dancers. It is said that Garcia inspired the song ‘The Most Beautiful Girl in the World.’

Following the death of their son, Mayte Garcia was pregnant a second time but miscarried. The loss of their son and the miscarriage is said to be the reason Prince and Mayte ended their marriage.

Thousands of Prince fans from all over the world have responded to Mayte’s Instagram post with prayers and condolences. One left the message, “I know your soul never stopped yearning! @Maytejannell #heknows.”

Personnel from the Carver County Sheriff’s Department responded to a 911 call at Prince’s Paisley Park Estate at approximately 9:45am on Thursday morning April 21. The medical team found Prince unresponsive inside an elevator at his home. CPR was administered but responders were not able to revive the singer/songwriter.

Just six days before Prince’s death, the plane he was traveling on made an emergency landing in Moline, Illinois following a concert in Atlanta on April 15. Members of Prince’s team advised emergency medical staff at the scene that the ‘When Doves Cry’ singer had taken Percocet following the concert.

A “save shot” was administered to save Prince’s life following the overdose. Prince performed a concert in Detroit the next night.
