Prince was pronounced dead at 57 years old on Thursday April 21 at his Minnesota home, Paisley Park Estate and his sister, Tyka Nelson, is shocked. Prince’s fans and fellow musicians are devastated by the news, and have taken to social media to celebrate the “Purple Rain” singer. But, no one is more devastated that Prince’s family – and his sister Tyka Nelson.
Prince was pre-deceased by his parents, and half-brother Duane Nelson. His younger sister Tyka Nelson, ow 55 years old, also lives in Minnesota. When reports of Prince’s death first hit the internet, law enforcement on the scene would not confirm that the singer was gone until they had contacted his local next of kin – Tyka Nelson.
Like her brother Prince, Tyka also has a flare for music, and has released 6 albums over the span of her lifetime. However, there was some bad blood between the siblings at one point. Tyka went down a dark path while her brother was building his musical empire, and has even opened up to tabloids about her history or prostitution and drug abuse.
With the help of her late brother Prince, Tyka Nelson checked in to rehab and turned her life around – she is now a devout Christian and sings Gospel music.
There is no doubt that Prince’s death has rocked Tyka Nelson to her core, and at this time the singer is most likely with her family, mourning the loss of her brother. Tyka Nelson has not officially spoken out about Prince’s death yet, her social media pages remain untouched as fans leave outpourings of condolences and support for her and her children.
