The Bachelor 2016 airs on ABC this evening with an all new Monday January 11, season 20 episode 2 and we have your weekly recap below. On tonight’s episode, Ben takes 10 ladies back to school where they battle to become homecoming queen. Later, Ice Cube and Kevin Hart show up on a date; singer Amos Lee performs for Ben Higgins and a lucky bachelorette; and six ladies visit L.A.’s “Love Lab” to see who is the best match for Ben.
On the last episode, season 20 began with 26-year-old Ben Higgins meeting 28 beautiful bachelorettes vying for his attention and for the first impression rose. Among the ladies were identical twin sisters, a cowgirl and a dentist. But everyone was stunned when two late arrivals—Becca, runner-up on Chris Soules’ season, and Amber, another alumna from Chris’ season—joined the party. Also appearing to give advice to Ben are former Bachelors Sean Lowe, Chris Soules and Jason Mesnick. Did you watch the last season’s finale? On tonight’s show as per the ABC synopsis, “Ben greets ten ladies at a local Los Angeles high school where he invites them to take a trip down memory lane with him, but Lace is desperate to redeem herself after her erratic behavior at the first rose ceremony.
Chris Harrison gets the first one-on-one date off to an exciting start when he introduces Ice Cube and Kevin Hart, fresh from the set of “Ride Along 2,” to Ben and his date, and they are off on a rollicking, unconventional rendezvous, which will end with a special performance by popular singer-songwriter Amos Lee. Finally, a visit to The Love Lab will test six bachelorettes to see who among them has the best connection to Ben. The week culminates when the drama-filled rose ceremony has one lady making a stunning decision.”

Tonight’s episode of The Bachelor kicks off with Ben Higgins ready to begin his journey now that he has met all of the women. At the Bachelor Mansion – the first date card arrives. Jackie, LB, Lauren H, Becca,, Amber, Mandy, JoJo, Jubilee, Jennifer, and Lace will be heading on the first group date of the season with Ben. The invitation teases, “Let’s learn how to love.” Lace can’t wait for her date – she is determined to redeem herself after getting drunk on night one and acting like a basket case.
The ladies climb in to the limo and leave to meet up with Bachelor Ben, they arrive at a building that looks like a high-school and it has a sign hanging on the door that says “Bachelor High.” Ben greets them outside and takes them on a tour – of course Professor Chris Harrison is waiting for them in a pair of completely nerdy glasses. Chris announces that they will be divided in to teams of two and will have to complete various tasks – if their team loses then they are eliminated. The winner at the end of the day will be crowned Ben’s Homecoming Queen.
Their first challenge is a science class – and they have to make a volcano, Jubilee and Lace are eliminated. Next, they have to bob for apples in the cafeteria. In geography class, the ladies have to find the state of Indiana and place it on a map. Becca and Jojo apparently aren’t familiar with a map of the US, and they are eliminated. The final competition is on the basketball court – Mandi and Amber are the final team standing. They head to the track and Mandi and Amber have to race to Ben. Mandi dominates the race and wins – she is crowned Ben’s Homecoming Queen and gets to spend alone time with him. They ride off together in a convertible and all of the other women watch with envy.
Later that night they have the group date cocktail party – and the girls are all eager to get some alone time with Ben. Becca snatches Ben up first and they head down to the basketball court together. Becca thanks Ben for helping to make her feel s comfortable and welcome. Ben sneaks off with Jennifer, and they share a pretty hot kiss. When the other girls learn that Ben kissed Jennifer, some of them are not happy about it … especially Lace.
Back t the Bachelor Mansion, the other women are waiting impatiently for the next date card to arrive. Olivia is certain that she will get the 1-on-1 date, and she even refers to herself as the “frontrunner.” So, you can imagine Olivia’s surprise when the card arrives and Caila Quinn is the one going on a 1-on-1 date with The bachelor.
Back on the group date, Lace finally gets some alone time with Ben. She apologizes for how crazy she was acting on night one. Ben accepts Lace’s apology and she tells him how excited she is to get to know him. Lace is about to kiss Ben, and then Jubilee interrupts their alone time.
After Jubilee makes out with Ben she heads back to the other women – and Lace is freaking out. She whines that she hasn’t gotten any time with Ben. Of course, there are other girls that haven’t gotten half as much time with Ben. Lace marches off and steals Ben again – and the other women are not happy with her and they are sick of her hogging Ben.
While the other girls are bickering over who has had more time with Ben, Ben sneaks off with JoJo and takes her up to the roof of the building to look over the night sky and the city below. Afterwards, Ben gives the group date rose to Jojo – and breaks a lot of hearts. Pace and Jubilee were both certain that they were getting the rose.
The next day it’s time for Caila Quinn’s date – Ben Higgins shows up to the mansion to pick her up with two of his pals, Ice Cube and Kevin Hart. They head to Los Angeles in their classic car, they pull over at a vendor to get Caila some flowers and Kevin argues with the guy over the price of them. Next, they stop at a liquor store – Ice Cube tries to get Ben to buy hard liquor and condoms and then pretends to rob the store. Next they stop at a spa store, and Kevin Hart wants to try out the hot tubs. And, Kevin even rashes their time in the hot tub – completely naked.
Back at the mansion, Amanda is video-chatting with her kids. She has had such little time with Ben – she is beginning to wonder if coming on the show was even worth it. The date card arrives at the house and Emily, Shushanna, Sam, Olivia, Haley, and Amanda are all invited on the next date. The invitation teases, “Are we a perfect match?”
Meanwhile, Ben and Caila are finishing up their date – they finally ditch Kevin Hart and Ice Cube and head out to a romantic dinner. Caila opens up to Ben and tells him what she is looking for in a guy. Ben gives Caila the date rose and then they head outside for a private concert, courtesy of Amos Lee.
It’s time for the next group date – the girls pile in to a limo and are taken to the “Love Lab.” Ben is there waiting for them dressed in a lab coat with goggles on. Be jokes that he has brought in “Dr. Love” and his team to see if science can actually find them love. The women are going to be measured by a series of experiments to see who is the best match for Ben.
The first experiment is retinal tracking tests, then they have to work up a sweat to see which girl he thinks smell the best. Ben walks around blindfolded smelling the sweaty girls. Now it’s time for the final test – Ben has to go in to an infered room with each girl while the doctors observe what kind of colors their bodies are setting off. The results are finally I – Dr. Love announces that the lowest score was Sam, she is definitely not the right match for Ben. The highest score was Olivia.
After the lab test – they have a cocktail party, Ben spends some alone time with each of the girls. He finally gets a chance to talk to Amanda and she gets a chance to tell him that she has two daughters. Ben is thrilled, and says that kids don’t scare him, afterwards they share their first kiss. Meanwhile, back with the other girls, Olivia is getting under their skin because she is rubbing it in their noses that she won the compatibility test. Ben returns and hands out the date rose to Olivia. Amanda is devastated – she was certain she was going to get the rose after her chat with Ben about her kids.
It’s time for the final cocktail party before the next rose ceremony. The girls are furious when Olivia steals Ben for another makeout session – she already has a rose, so there really is no reason for her to be hogging all of his time. Olivia returns and tells the girls that “now she is done with Ben and everyone else can have at it.” Lace takes Olivia aside, and lets her know that what she did wasn’t cool. Lace confesses that she is scared that she might not get a roses and she needs more time with Ben.
Lace finally gets the “alone time” that she has been whining about with Ben. He confesses that the first night was a bit strange for him – and he wanted to start a clean slate with her. Lace admits that she knows she is “a lot to handle.” She starts rambling about how she was bullied a a kid and her dad used to call her “Rosanna Rosedanna” – all the other girls listen in and try not to laugh. Then, Lace’s time is interrupted once again by another one of the girls. Then, Lace heads to the bathroom to cry – she is certain she is definitely going home now.
Lauren B. didn’t get a date with Ben this week – but he has a surprise for her, he had a photograph made of them together on the first night. She confesses that she was afraid that he was going to send her home tonight. Ben reassures Lauren that he has been thinking about her a lot and he doesn’t want her to give up on him because they didn’t go on a date together. Ben also sits down with Amanda again – he brought along some crafts, he wants to make hair accessories for her daughters with her. Amanda breaks down in tears because she thinks it is the sweetest thing ever.
It’s time for the next rose ceremony. Olivia, Cailin, and JoJo already have roses. Ben passes out roses to Amanda, Jubilee, Lauren B, Leah, Becca, Rachel, Lace, and LB. When LB goes down to get her rose – she asks Ben if she can speak to him in private. She takes him out of the room and tells him that she is not comfortable and she wants to go home. Ben agrees and walks her out to the door and says her goodbyes. So, now someone is going to get LB’s rose and a second chance to stay. Ben continues passing out roses and gives one to Jennifer, Emily, Jami, Lauren H, Shushanna, Haley, and Amber. Samantha, Mandi, and a few other girls who got zero screen time are officially eliminated.
