Stef was finally taken off of administrative leave on tonight’s episode of “The Fosters” and unfortunately she had to miss the opening of her kids’ play because of it.

Apparently a domestic disturbance was called in at Jude and Callie’s old foster home and Stef just happened to be one of the officers in the immediate area so she was sent there when really she would have preferred to be with her children. The family had all come out for Brandon and Mariana’s big night and the play itself proved to be a hit with both the crowd as well as the kids themselves. And Jude for one managed to enjoy the play in spite of it reminding him of his recent breakup with Connor.

So it was definitely a thought provoking piece. However, there was a lot leading up to opening night and not all of it was good. Such as Brandon’s situation with Cortney for instance because their relationship was hanging in the balance.

Although Brandon could easily have fixed what’s wrong before Cortney’s doubts had started to intrude. It seems that Brandon had actually fought with his girlfriend Cortney a few days before performing and surprisingly their fight hadn’t been about Callie. It instead had been about Cortney’s son and what kind of role that Brandon wanted in the little boy’s life.

As it happens all of three of them had gone out for a day on the beach when someone had mistakenly assumed that Brandon and Cortney were both the boy’s parents, but that was an easy mistake. Yet, Brandon hadn’t reacted well and had in fact been quick to voice that he wasn’t anyone’s father much less the child’s. Thereby implying, at least to Cortney, that he didn’t want to be mistaken as part of her family.

So naturally that had upset Cortney who believed her boyfriend should either accept her as the package deal that she is or just say he wasn’t ready for that type of commitment. But that was just one of the many things riding underneath the surface on opening night. For Mariana too was suffering a setback.

Mariana has recently realized that she still has feelings for her ex-boyfriend Mat however they were both seeing other people. She was with Nick who had gone to extraordinary lengths to be with her and he was with Zoe. Zoe being the one that had gone the distance to make sure that everyone knew Mariana had once cheated on Mat.

Therefore, their situation was already complicated as it was and it didn’t help that there were two other people involved that appeared intent on wanting to destroy a possible reunion.

Mat had later revealed to Mariana during one of their breaks in the play that he had put a letter in her bag. Though Mariana never got his letter that stated he still loved her. So she had no idea what happened to it and her two main suspects were each digging the knives at every turning point. Nick by being the supportive boyfriend and Zoey whose own jealousy had finally gone too far when she told Mariana that she and Mat were sleeping together.

However, Jude’s problem wasn’t going to be resolved by the end of a play because his one and only remaining friend Jack had died.

Earlier, he had been missing his boyfriend and his friend had tried to act as a substitute. What with kissing him and all yet fortunately Callie had been on hand. For she then told Jack that he shouldn’t have crossed that line unless meant something. And not just because he wanted to cheer up a friend.

And thankfully Jack did later admit the truth. He had valued Jude’s friendship and the kiss hadn’t been stemming from unresolved feelings. So the two agreed that were going to stay being friends even though Jack’s latest foster home meant there was going to be some distance between them. But Jude had believed everything was going to be fine because his parents had gotten Jack a pay as you go phone.

Yet, that domestic disturbance call that Stef answered had involved Jack. He had got sent to his newest foster home which the system had known was dangerous beforehand seeing as Stef had already reported the foster father for pulling a gun on a couple of minors, but sadly that had been ignored. And they sent Jack there anyways.

THE END!
