Tonight on the CW The Vampire Diaries starring Nina Dobrev, Ian Somerhalder and Paul Wesley continues with an all new Friday April 29 season 7 episode 20 called “Kill ‘Em All,” and we have your weekly recap and spoilers below. On tonight’s episode, Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Enzo (Michael Malarkey) lead the charge to save Bonnie (Katerina Graham) before her condition worsens; Stefan (Paul Wesley) reluctantly teams up with Matt for Bonnie’s sake and uncovers the truth behind Matt’s (Zach Roerig) anger towards him.
On the last episode, Enzo’s efforts to protect Bonnie put her life in jeopardy and it’s learned that Rayna may have held the key to Bonnie’s survival. Did you watch the last episode? If you missed it, we recapped it all right here for you.

#VampireDiaries starts with Bonnie splashing water on her face at a public restroom and looking at more sores on her body. Back at the mental hospital, she asks to visit Virginia St John. Bonnie talks to her about Alex and the vault and asks what’s in it.
Virginia says everyone has wondered that in 1882 when her grandpa opened it. We see flashback to then when they opened the vault and went inside with lanterns held out. It looks like a cave. They hear whispers and then their lanterns flicker out and there are screams.
Virginia says it’s not a what or a who – it’s what it does to you. We see them ran back out of the vault and her grandpa says he’s fine. She says it takes your compassion. We see him whistling later and honing a blade. She says it eats your soul. We see he killed everyone.
Virginia says her sister has been trapped four years and there’s no telling what she is. Bonnie says maybe she can’t survive and Virginia says Alex hears her crying for her. Virginia says don’t let Alex set it free. Bonnie promises.
Damon brawls with a vamp and rips out his heart in Delaware and then knocks his head off. Enzo says this is taking too long. They have a stack of bodies and pour gas on them and light them up. Damon gets a call from Stefan who killed off ones in Huntsville.
Stefan is irritated and asks who’s next and Damon says he’s meeting Matt to take down an MMA vampire. Stefan says Matt hates him and sicced Rayna on him. Matt shows up and Damon says try not to care so much about being hated.
Damon tells Stefan he can live with Bonnie hating him so long as she lives. Matt tells Stefan he’s driving. Ric looks for some of his hunter gear and Caroline says that is not part of child proofing. She wants to go hunting and he says no.
Caroline says she’s safer than he is and insists on going. Bonnie finds Rayna by the fire burning paper and Bonnie asks if she’s in her shirt. Rayna says she’s giving her life so she can deal with it. Rayna says when all the names burn, Bonnie can have a great life.
Bonnie asks why she’s willing to die and Rayna says she’s lived seven lifetimes and says she doesn’t know how vampires can want immortality. She says everything that mattered she had in her first life then it was taken and she’s spent seven lives longing for it.
Rayna says she’ll get peace from this. Bonnie notices her magic is back which means the Armory can track her now. Matt and Stefan head to Spartanburg but have a couple of hours to drive. Stefan asks if he wants to talk about his vendetta against Stefan.
Stefan asks what it’s about and we see two years ago that Matt was with Penny. She asks what he’s looking at on his laptop and makes him show her. He says go away. It was a list of top 10 ways to propose. She says yes before he can ask.
Matt says okay and hands her the ring. Penny says it’s a total home run but says it’s too expensive. He says he got a promotion to sergeant. He puts the ring on her finger. They kiss. Now, Matt says their wedding invitations were waiting when he got home from the funeral.
Stefan says that’s awful and Matt says everyone’s sorry. Stefan says he heard it was a car accident. Matt says she hit a tree when she lost control of her truck but that’s only the official story. Matt says they both know that’s not what happened.
Damon stakes another vamp and gets a call from Bonnie who asks why Enzo isn’t answering his phone. She says her magic is back and the Armory is one locator spell away from having her. Damon says they are dropping bodies and it will be fine.
He reminds her she’s died three times before and is still around. Bonnie says thank you but he should not have abandoned them. She says she forgives him and he says no. He says she’s saying this because she thinks they won’t pull it off. He says they will.
Damon says don’t forgive me and says stay strong. Bonnie tells Rayna she won’t let them use her to hide the vault. Rayna makes her a shot to hide her for another 24 hours but isn’t sure how long Bonnie has left to live.
Alex approaches the vault in the Armory and hears her sister calling to her. She tells Yvette she’s there and is going to help her. Ric and Caroline says they are after these two vampires who are busy doing each other and says Rayna gave her lots of details.
Ric says maybe that will distract them. He asks if she feels guilty but Caroline says they can go out on a high note. Ric says it’s bleak and Caroline insists she’s fine. Ric asks if she wants to talk about Stefan and she says she has nothing to say to him or about him.
Ric says okay. Damon calls Rayna and says she took some more of her blood to hide herself. Enzo wants to talk to Bonnie who asks if she’s crazy. Bonnie says she can’t let them find her but Enzo says she’s shortening the window.
Bonnie says they’re nowhere near done and there’s more names. Bonnie says just come home so they can have their last moments together. She says she wants to spend the time she has left with him there and says come home. She ends the call.
Enzo screams in frustration. Damon says he’s been there for three years and says you can’t fight, drink or kill your way out of it. Damon tells Enzo go to her but Enzo says he can’t give up. Damon says go make sure she doesn’t give up.
Alex calls Damon back and he says he needs hellstone rejects killed ASAP. She asks what he’s offering and says she can have Bonnie if she finishes the list. Matt and Stefan are at a home that’s being revamped. Stefan asks why he thinks Penny didn’t die in a car accident.
Matt says things didn’t add up. No tire marks in the road, air bag didn’t deploy, and more. Matt says it reminded him of the deaths covered up as animal attacks in Mystic Falls. Stefan asks what he found. He says there was at least one vamp there that night.
It was Stefan. We see him at Sheriff Forbes’ grave and he says he was hoping Caroline might show. Stefan says he wouldn’t hurt Penny. The vamp chooses then to attack them. Stefan kills the vamp with a power saw and it’s like a tornado of blood.
He saved Matt who thanks him. Ric and Caroline show up to a tattoo shop and find Ashlyn tattooing her BF. They attack the vamps. Ashlyn runs off and leaves her BF. They stake him and have to go after Ashlyn. Other hunters take her out and tell Ric to come with them.
Bonnie wakes to Enzo at her side. He takes her in his arms. She says don’t be sad. They talk about Beauty and The Beast and she kisses him. Rayna comes in and stages. She gets a vision and says it’s killing. She sees vamp after vamp dying.
She grabs names and burns them and says – they’re killing them. Damon calls Stefan and says the names are all checked off soon but it’s complicated. Stefan says he notices the good he’s doing and says keep it up. He ends the call.
Matt tells Stefan he checked the footage of his dash cam and saw him compel him to think it was an accident and that she didn’t suffer. Matt pulls a gun on him and says tell me the truth. Bonnie is furious at Damon and says she won’t be forced to open the vault.
Damon says he has a shaman ready to give her a life and all she has to do is get Alex’s sister back. Damon asks Enzo to weigh in but he says Bonnie gets to make her own decisions. Damon gets a call from Alex who asks to talk to Bonnie.
Alex says she knows she doesn’t have much time left. Alex says she has something she might want. Ric and Caroline are at the Armory and he sees an artifact he looked for so many years ago and for so long. Caroline gets snippy with him.
Caroline says she wants to get home to the girls. Ric says half of these things should have been lost to history and says they can make them disappear. He says he hopes whatever they want, someone gives it to them.
Stefan tells Matt this will make it worse. We see Stefan being stalked by Penny. She says she found blood bags in his trunk. She shoots him. Matt says tell me what happened and says he needs to know. Matt then says please.
Stefan whispers remember and he does. We see Matt at the cemetery. He radios Penny. Stefan is there and Penny is on the ground. Stefan bites his wrist and Matt tells her to drink. She dies. Stefan says it’s too late.
Stefan says he’s sorry. Now, Matt cries and Stefan says it’s okay. Matt says it’s his fault. He says he killed her. Stefan says sorry again. Bonnie chants to open the vault. Her nose bleeds. The door opens. Alex looks worried. Bonnie says it’s done.
Alex thanks her and says they’re free to go. Alex and her Armory pals go to the vault. Enzo tells Damon that Bonnie will never forgive him. Damon says he didn’t want his BFF to die. Damon says Enzo needs to admit he considered making the same deal.
Damon says lucky for him he had him there to be the bad guy. Bonnie comes up and says get Caroline and Ric and let’s go. She says run. Alex and the others creep into the vault. She calls out for Yvette. She hears her whisper her name.
Alex finds her sister’s molted corpse and cries out. She cries out – what have you done to my sister. She tells them run. Outside, Bonnie chants to seal the doors. Bonnie says she kept her promise – no one is getting out. She collapses as Alex begs her to let them out.
Stefan tells Matt he couldn’t let him live with that one momentary mistake and Matt says he pulled the trigger but if Stefan wasn’t there, it wouldn’t have happened. He tells Stefan he blames him. Matt says he ruined his life and ruined Penny’s life too.
Matt asks whose life will Stefan ruin next. He walks away in disgust. Enzo tells Bonnie it won’t be long and Rayna will work the spell. Caroline and Ric talk why she cooks get well soup even though Bonnie says it’s awful.
Ric says they can go now but Caroline says she can’t go until she knows Bonnie is okay. She insists she doesn’t want to see Stefan. Caroline rants about commitment, loyalty and honesty. Ric says he needs closure and says his last wedding didn’t go well.
He says he can’t marry her and wants to be her partner but doesn’t want it if she wants to be with someone else. Caroline says she loves their family. Caroline says he’s the one who’s unfulfilled and says they have tried so hard to have a normal life.
She says their kids are witch syphons and their life won’t be normal but she wants to be deep in this with him. Damon tells Rayna she’s doing a good thing and calls her stabby pants. There’s a bonfire and a descendent of the tribe that created her plus some of Bonnie’s blood.
The shaman tells Rayna it’s a great honor to meet her. Bonnie’s blood is spread on the blade and the shaman and Rayna sit at the fire. The shaman says she’s been the servant of vengeance – let her journey end and let another take up her burden.
Damon is upset and says wait. Rayna smiles and says she won’t forgive him for what he did to her and says when Bonnie wakes she will hate him and his kind and unable to rest until you’re wiped from this earth. Rayna stabs herself and Bonnie wakes with a gasp, nice and healthy.
