The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers tease that the CBS soap is wrapping up a year of great performances. Several actresses rose to the top with their portrayals in 2016. Take a look at our favorites and vote for the one you liked best.
First, we have Gina Tognoni (Phyllis). She did some stellar work this year when Victor (Eric Braeden) went on trial. Nobody conveys pain and anger quite like Tognoni. She really knows how to make you feel it! Tognoni also helped us see Phyllis’ passion and guilt throughout the affair storyline.
Regardless of how you felt about “Philly,” there’s no denying that Tognoni brought the heat in her scenes with Jason Thompson (Billy). After Jack (Peter Bergman) dumped Phyllis, Tognoni did a nice job of showing Phyllis’ regret and fierce determination. She’s been giving us all of Phyllis’ layers.
We have to recognize Sharon Case (Sharon) for her performance in 2016 as well. The “Sully” reveal was definitely worth noting. Case brought plenty of emotion to her scenes with Joshua Morrow (Nick), Steve Burton (Dylan) and Camryn Grimes (Mariah).
Of course, Case was excellent in the material leading up to her revelation. Sharon was unhinged and Case certainly let us know it. If it weren’t for Mariah, who knows how things would’ve turned out? It was awesome to see Mariah and Sharon’s bond highlighted this year.
That brings us to out next best actress selection. Camryn Grimes put in some solid work in the midst of the baby drama. Mariah was forced into a situation she didn’t want to be in, but she protected Sharon anyway. Grimes made us sympathetic to her dilemma.
Once the secret was exposed, Grimes had some wondeful moments. As Dylan was reacting to Sharon’s confession, Mariah walked in and realized the truth was out. Grimes immediately summoned tears as Mariah defended Sharon. Her ability to shift gears instantly is impressive.
Another standout performer this year was Elizabeth Hendrickson. Her return as Chloe offered plenty of surprises. The Young and the Restless fans know that Chloe is both fragile and forceful. It takes a special kind of actress to pull that off.
Luckily, Hendrickson’s got what it takes. Her scenes with Justin Hartley (Adam) were mesmerizing. Many Y&R fans enjoyed how Chloe gave Victor (Eric Braeden) a run for his money. Hendrickson helped Chloe’s craziness come through, but she also showed her softer side. Chloe’s interactions with Bella were incredibly sweet.
