'The Young and the Restless' Spoilers: Dylan Leaves Sharon for Avery – Steve Burton's Farewell Exit Begins

The Young and the Restless spoilers tease that Dylan (Steve Burton) will leave Sharon (Sharon Case) for Avery (Jessica Collins) due to the Christian (Jamie and Alister Tobias) reveal. Jessica Collins won’t return to the cast, but her character will be used as a verbal reference when Dylan departs Genoa City. Burton’s voluntarily exit from the show is propelling this segment of the arc that involves Shylan.

The Young and the Restless spoilers remind us that this couple grew organically. Sharon and Dylan weren’t oddly pushed together like Nick (Joshua Morrow) and Chelsea (Melissa Claire Egan) were due to Justin Hartley’s (Adam) departure from the cast late this summer.

The quick end of Shylan also makes sense because Sharon and Dylan weren’t soul mates and didn’t know each other intimately for more than a year-plus.

Believability is something that savvy Y&R soap opera fans expect. Yes, action scenes, various natural disasters, numerous marriages and invading one-dimensional villains are acceptable. But if a central character isn’t true to himself, meaning Dylan in this instance, than whatever storyline is pushed just won’t work.

The Young and the Restless spoilers posit that it’s completely realistic to believe that Dylan would feel so betrayed by Sharon that he would leave her, obtain a divorce and return to the woman whose memory kept him alive during wartime.

Avery is unquestionably spectacular in many ways and, unlike Sharon, isn’t kooky. So Dylan will actually stabilize his life when he drops Sharon and reconnects with his true love.

Most Y&R fans agree that anyone would have been mad if their spouse kept the Sully-is-Christian secret for a few days. But Sharon applied this lie to Dylan’s life for months, had no apparent intentions of ever admitting her outrageous mistake and then tried to play the victim after finally being forced to admit what she did.

Sharon was Sandy’s (Elizabeth Bogush) victim, at first. But, like Dylan referenced, as soon as she suspected and then confirmed Christian’s paternity, Sharon became the problem.

Dylan’s response to his brother’s arrival at the cottage demonstrated another unbridgeable gap with Sharon. Nick patiently waited until the morning after he learned Christian was alive to take his son home. However, as he was attempting to do so Sharon tried to talk him out of it.

Dylan resisted at first as well and then suggested a joint custody arrangement. But he quickly realized that Nick was the boy’s father, which tipped his emotional scales. Meanwhile, Sharon was unable to check her feelings, as usual.

Steve Burton’s efforts in these scenes deserve strong kudos. He’s offering textured layers of emotion that all solid actors deliver when called upon. Burton was given many meaty storylines during his Y&R tenure and can leave the show knowing that he performed with consistent style.
