‘Wayward Pines’ spoilers Season 2 Episode 2 ‘Blood Harvest’ tease that another of the original characters may be taken out. This episode picks up where Episode 1 left us with three in the truck past the wall and Abbies swarming the vehicle and trying to scale their way into town.
Ben Burke (Charlie Tahan) and Xander Beck (Josh Helman) are in the back of the truck and Dr Theo Yedlin (Jason Patric) is up front. Ben tells Xander they need to make a move but Xander does not want to leave the possible safety of the truck for the certainty of death outside.
But once the Abbies start shoving their heads through the glass, there’s no choice but to run. Meanwhile, Theresa Burke (Shannyn Sossamon) pleads with Jason Higgins (Tom Stevens) to save her son but the town has more pressing problems – Abbies are coming over the walls.
Jason sends out troops to gun down the evolved scary super-humans then declares that it’s time to push back harder than they have before. Theresa will watch in horror as Abbies swarm over someone outside the wall, but is it Ben? Will he die as his father Ethan did before him?
We’ll meet a new character this episode, CJ Mitchum, played by the amazing Djimon Hounsou, who goes out to fight the Abbies with flamethrowers. In addition to being an expert at Abbie barbecue techniques, CJ is a Wayward Pines historian which is an interesting profession in a make-believe town.
Turns out CJ is an original resident of Wayward Pines, referred to as ‘The Duster,’ who has a unique perspective on both this world they live in and the past where the last generation of humans lived before the Abbies wrecked the world.
Wheelchair bound Megan Fisher (Hope Davis) brings one of the dead Abbies to class to stun her students and tells them “the only good Abbie is a dead Abbie.” Of interest, if you catch a quick glimpse of the class, is that at least one of the First Generation teens is heavily pregnant.
Ben transmits a message, speaking to the omni-present security cameras, and says these may be his last words since he’s outside the wall. We see Ben in a field and some Abbies come at him and knock him down, but is that the end of the rebellious kid?
Ben portrayer Charlie Tahan’s IMDB credits for the show end at this episode, so we’ll see. ‘Wayward Pines’ showrunner Mark Friedman told TVLine, “There are probably some residual human traits that may be part of the world. Also the ones we’ve seen so far are males – I’ll just leave it at that.”
However, we know for sure that Dr Theo will survive the Abbie incident because he’s slated to appear throughout Season 2. It’s not clear if Jason sent him beyond the wall to scare some sense into him planning to retrieve him or if Theo’s survival is a lucky break.
Spoilers tease that Theo will be more circumspect from here on out and will use his surgical skills to try and get the answers that he wants about the confusing new world he finds himself in. The residents will grapple with the question this season if the world now belongs to the Abbies and they no longer fit.
