Camilla Parker Bowles will be declared Queen Consort when Queen Elizabeth dies, whether her critics like it or not. Camilla is currently known as Princess Consort, even though it has no historical or legal meaning. But when her husband Prince Charles becomes King of England, Camilla will be known as Queen as there’s no alternative title for her. A lot of critics are up in arms over the idea and especially Prince William’s wife, Kate Middleton.
“She is queen whatever she is called,” as one scholar put it, according to a new piece in Britain’s The Guardian. “If she is called Princess Consort there is an implication that she is not quite up to it. It’s a problem.”
What’s more, King Charles is currently expected to introduce Queen Camilla at his Accession Council on the day of Queen Elizabeth’s death, whenever that happens. A lot of people are angered that Camilla will actually become Queen but then again, it will happen. Confirmation of her title will form part of the first 24 hours.
The last thing Kate Middleton wants to see is Camilla Parker Bowles become Queen. She’s already had to deal with enough drama with Queen Elizabeth. And knowing that her relationship with Camilla is already icy, there’s a huge possibility that she might make Kate Middleton’s life in Kensington Palace hell. She won’t be able to get away with canceling her public appearances at the last minute or refusing to do more work than she has to. Camilla will keep Kate on her toes whether she likes it or not.
Plus, there’s also the fact that Kate Middleton is the reason why Camilla Parker Bowles has been living in a royal shadow these days. But once she becomes Queen, everything will change. The Duchess of Cambridge won’t be able to ditch the royals to spend her holidays with the Middleton family. With Camilla, Kate will have two choices: shape up, or ship out.
