A man in an Army uniform, carrying a backpack sits at a bus stop as the police drive by. He looks very nervous and walks into a church. The team is there sitting at a table buying guns back. The man gives them a gun he wants to sell. The man is arrested because the gun is covered in blood splatters. Laura and Antonio question the man about where he got the gun. He finally admits he got it from under his nephew Andre’s bed. DNA finds that the blood on the gun belongs to a gang member named Damon Cafferty. Peter and Hannah get ready to start their murder case.

The trial of Lara’s killer begins. Lara was walking to school as a gang member began shooting as Damon Cafferty. Damon was shot in the arm but Lara was killed by a stray bullet. Laura and Antonio head into the courtroom to tell Peter and Hannah they just found the murder weapon. It is possible they have the wrong person on trial for the murder. Forensics confirm the gun was used to kill Lara. Mark reams Peter and Hannah for putting the wrong person on trial. They ask the judge for a continuance and are granted 72 hours. The judge releases the defendant and Laura and Antonio give him a ride home. He will be on house arrest.

As he walks to his house he is shot by a car driving by. He is only hit in the leg. Peter and Hannah question the man who turned in the gun and want him to tell them how Andre got the gun. He tells them Keo Vincent came over the night Lara was killed. He thinks Keo gave Andre the gun. Laura and Peter find Keo but he denies any involvement in Lara’s murder.

A gang war is on between PDK and Drexil Posse. In the last eight hours 3 are dead and 8 have been wounded. Hannah gets cell phone records for Keo that show he was on the block Lara was killed the night she died. Peter tries to get a hearing to take the gang members cell phones away because they are using their phones to plan the violence. The judge agrees to a hearing. Mark is at first angry at Peter’s plan but then agrees to give him a chance.

During the hearing the first amendment is argued along with the epidemic number of dead in Chicago. The judges allows Peter to shut down 39 cell phones. The ACLU immediately files an appeal. Andrea comes to the police department and says Keo has been harassing him and wants his gun back. Peter and Hannah tell Andre they will arrest Keo but they need him to testify. Andre and his uncle say they can’t testify and they are going to have to go into hiding.

Mark challenges Peter that it is going to be nearly impossible to make a difference with what is happening in their town but Peter isn’t going to give up. Peter asks the judge that the trial continue but he wants to call Keo to the stand. He believes that Keo is the real killer and they hope once they get him on the stand he will incriminate himself. Peter gives Keo the gun and he knows that it sticks when you try to load it. The charges are dropped against Stackhouse and Keo is arrested for the murder of Lara. As the team celebrates the victory they get a call that Andre’s uncle has been killed.
