According to Princess Diana’s former butler Paul Burrell, Kate Middleton lacks the same x-factor that Prince William’s late mother once had. In fact, Paul made some rather catty comments about the Duchess of Cambridge during an on-air interview with an Australian television show this past week.
Kate Middleton has long been compared to Princess Diana. Just recently a German media outlet claimed that the Duchess is the next princess of hearts because she has the same charisma and warmth that Diana once had. But apparently, not everyone feels this same way. In an interview with Australia’s Nine News, Diana’s former right-hand man said, “I met Mother Teresa — she had it, Pope John Paul II had it, the Queen has it, Diana certainly had it. Kate doesn’t. [She is a] lovely, lovely girl, but that extra something, which you call the X factor, is not there.”
Presenter Karl Stefanovic was rather taken aback by Paul Burrell’s comments. He blasted Paul by responding with, “That’s way too harsh, isn’t it? How dare you even say that!”’
But the humiliation didn’t stop there. Paul, who is also a British reality television star, defended himself by saying that Princess Diana always was and will be one-of-a-kind. He also admitted that he has never met Kate Middleton in person. He added, “I just see her the way you see her, through a lens.”
If that weren’t enough, many critics are also blasting Paul Burrell for continually using Princess Diana to make headlines. For many of Diana’s fans, he shouldn’t even be on television in the first place. Sure, he was one of Princes Diana’s most trusted confidants, but their relationship ended well over twenty years ago.
For many royal observers, they believe Princess Diana would never allow someone like Paul Burrell to make catty and unnecessary comments about Kate Middleton and her lack of x-factor in public. After all, she is Prince William’s wife. And she’s also the future Queen of England, whether Paul Burrell likes it or not. That’s why critics say that he needs to calm down and stop comparing Kate to Diana whenever he’s given the opportunity to do so.
