Kelly Ripa and Megyn Kelly are reportedly in a ‘vicious catfight’, according to a new report from the National Enquirer. Apparently, The Enquirer has forgotten the definition of ‘catfight’, given that the report goes on to discuss this supposed ‘catfight’ which has none of the hallmarks of an actual catfight.
The report claims that Kelly Ripa is ‘terrified’ that Megyn Kelly will destroy her in ratings when she moves to her rival show on NBC (Ripa’s show airs on ABC). A ‘source’ claims, “Kelly is making herself crazy that Megyn will cream her. [Ripa] fears Megyn will steal her thunder.” Ok, can someone analyze the stats on the overlap between the audience that watches Megyn Kelly and the audience that watches Kelly Ripa? It’s not immediately obvious that there’s a huge overlap, especially since they generally focus on vastly different topics and cater to different demographics.
The report makes it seem like Kelly Ripa is worried only about a rival female show host popping up on a rival network, in which case – why isn’t she jealous of Oprah Winfrey? Or Ellen DeGeneres for that matter? And why wasn’t the jealousy present when Megyn Kelly was still on Fox, which is still one of the big four networks?
Of course, the report ALSO claims that Kelly Ripa is still going through every potential replacement for Michael Strahan, explaining, “Kelly thought Megyn would be a good fit. Now, Kelly feels betrayed, in addition to being worried.” The source seems to purport that Kelly Ripa was considering Megyn Kelly as a potential replacement, but now feels ‘betrayed’ over her moving to a rival show.
None of this really makes much sense, given that the announcements of Megyn Kelly leaving Fox and of Megyn Kelly landing a show on NBC were pretty much made in tandem. It was clear that Megyn was juggling the two offers, and the likeliest scenario is that Megyn had NBC lined up the minute negotiations with Fox went south (whether due to salary negotiations or something else, take your pick).
