The rumor mill surrounding Prince Harry’s impending engagement to Meghan Markle has begun to churn into overdrive, with the latest rumor coming via a former member of the royal household who suggests that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will announce their engagement in December to avoid ‘clashing with other celebrations’.
Despite many people assuming that the engagement announcement would come during August to coincide with Meghan Markle’s birthday, formal royal chef Darren McGrady predicts that Prince Harry will propose to his long-time (by Prince Harry’s standards) girlfriend around Christmas, thereby avoiding most other major royal occasions.
Darren McGrady reportedly told Hello!, “I really do think they would have been engaged by now. But Princess Diana’s 20th anniversary this month in August, they can’t trump that. And then November is the Queen and Prince Philip’s platinum wedding anniversary so they can’t trump that either, whereas December they can announce the engagement and they’d be free to marry next year; I think that’s what’s going to happen.”
Prince Harry’s relationship with Meghan Markle has been his most public and his most serious thus far, and it seems like every single person close to Harry has admitted that an engagement is in the cards. Harry himself has also behaved differently with Meghan than he has with his exes, going out of his way to protect her from the media spotlight and working hard to help her maintain her privacy. Given that the two have been dating for over a year now, and that Queen Elizabeth (and the rest of the royal family) are probably putting pressure on Prince Harry to settle down, it’s actually surprising that Harry hasn’t announced his engagement to Meghan already.
Many royal watchers thought he would do it when he took Meghan on a safari to Botswana for her 36th birthday, but alas, it seems like the prince is still waiting patiently for the right moment. Maybe he’s still uncertain about whether he wants to marry Meghan, or maybe he’s unsure that he’s ready to get married. Although sources close to the prince are adamant that he’s convinced that Meghan Markle is the ‘one’, all this waiting for an official engagement announcement is causing the royal fandom to question Harry’s real feelings and intentions in the matter.
