It didn’t take long for Ryan Seacrest to start messing up on the job. It’s only been two weeks since Ryan Seacrest was announced as the new co-host of Live With Kelly And Ryan. He already has enough work projects on the side. He didn’t need to add talk show host to his ever-growing resume. And he’s already messing up in his new hosting gig.
Ryan Seacrest mistook actor Jeffrey Tambor for late Ghost actor Vincent Schiavelli on Wednesday’s live show. Seacrest talked about Tambor’s roles on Arrested Development, The Larry Sanders Show, and Transparent. He then recalled watching Tambor on Ghost as a child. However, that was not Tambor in the film.
Tambor corrected Seacrest and said he mistook him for the late actor. Things got awkward with Kelly Ripa and Seacrest trying to play along with the joke. He pretended to get angry that his notes on his card weren’t corrected. Ripa interjected and said that Tambor was at least still here. Tambor took it all in good stride though.
The actor joked that his reps will contact Seacrest and file a class action lawsuit. The audience laughed as Tambor said he was mistaken for the actor before when he was on vacation in Rome. He went on to say that even his wife thought he was Schiavelli, but she married him anyway. Schiavelli sadly passed away in 2005, and Tambor is thankfully still with us to this day.
It appears that Kelly Ripa and Ryan Seacrest are already off to a “rocky start,” according to Page Six. The longtime friends hoped that this would work out for them. But, as everyone knows, Seacrest has too many projects on his plate. In addition, he’s hoping that Live With Kelly And Ryan will give him more leeway to bring more shows like American Idol to ABC. He’s also hoping that he can have more control on the morning talk show.
Sources told Page Six that Ripa does not want another “Michael Strahan situation.” She wants to make sure that Live is Seacrest’s priority, not Idol. Last week, it was announced that ABC was reviving the singing talent competition show from the dead after it already had it’s 15-season run on FOX. It has not been reported whether Seacrest will be the host, but it’s likely.
Another source close to the radio show host said he’s considering it. Though Seacrest has been playing dumb about Idol on Live, it’s clear that this gig is part of his new deal with ABC. This was not a random or coincidental decision on ABC’s part. He took the job for Idol, and to host Live. Seacrest has reassured Ripa that his priority lies with Live With Kelly and Ryan and then his radio show.
