Somewhere Between begins tonight with Haskell Debray (Aaron Craven) being released from custody while Nico Jackson (Devon Sawa) attempts to break out of the interrogation room he is locked in. Jenny (Carmel Amit) meets Laura Price (Paula Patton) outside the precinct, promising to not take her eyes off Haskell. Laura sees Haskell and Jenny stop her from attacking him and reminds her to stay at the hospital bu Mimi’s side until she wakes up and can identify him.

The police drop Haskell off at home, he immediately goes upstairs and opens the window as Jenny says, “welcome home dirtbag!” At the hospital Laura gets a text from Jenny confirming she has eyes on Haskell, then learns she cannot sit with Mimi as the police say no visitors. She asks him to tell her if Mimi opens her eyes.

Laura sits on a chair and recalls her husband Tom (JR Bourne) saying that Nico was fired for the brutal beating of a citizen; she finds a video of the incident on the phone and is mortified. Captain Kendra Sarneau (Samantha Ferris) demands to know Nico’s source and no wise ass comments. Nico lies and says he has been posing as a priest and heard the plan that way.

She stops him from his story saying he looks suspicious on all accounts and she calls in Inspector Kupner (Daniel Bacon) to write him up. Nico and Sarneau argue about his firing 5 years earlier. At the hospital, there is a bomb threat and everyone who is mobile is ordered to go; Laura pleads with the officer who promises not to leave Mimi’s side as she is sure its Haskell; security escorts her out as she tells Jenny to make sure Haskell is still in the apartment.

Jenny rushes off to the police who are parked outside. Jenny says to see if Haskell is there when an elderly woman appears in the window. They ask if Haskell is there and she says why would he be, he stopped by and left; they quickly discover its not his apartment at all. Jenny tells Laura it was a fake out and Haskell is gone.

Laura sneaks away from the guards and makes it back into the hospital as Haskell attaches Mimi’s medical devices to the unconscious officer and asks if he should sing her a lullaby, covering her face with a pillow and singing “Hush Little Baby.” Laura uses a defibrillator on Haskell twice, saving Mimi from certain death.

Once again, Haskell accuses Laura of stalking him but when he is medically cleared to go, Sarneau arrests him in the attempted murder of Mimi. He says he refuses to be silent saying he will only speak to Nico. Sarneau agrees, but tells only Nico she will be listening in. Laura calls Nico saying she is in the car behind Haskell and wonders like he does what Haskell wants to talk to him about.

He goes outside to meet Laura, outside they witness the cruisers arriving but someone on a motorcycle pulls up beside the car Haskell is in and opens fire; Sarneau orders for an ambulance while Haskell tells Nico the whole world is looking and that he took his so now he is taking care of his. Laura asks if he wanted to kill Serena (Aria Birch) but he shakes his head and dies before he can respond.

Nico walks over to Laura after EMS arrived, asking why she has a frowny face when they beat fate to the ground? She thinks Haskell may have had a partner and that partner killed him to stop him from talking. Inspector Kupner says they know who the bike was registered to David, who was there earlier to identify the jewelry; his sister was the 5th victim.

Sarneau says the case is closed and frees Nico and Laura celebrates that her daughter will live; Nico jokes until she is a teenager and she feels otherwise. Nico also has hope feeling that now his brother Danny Jackson (Noel Johansen) doesn’t have to die on death row either. Laura realizes she left her car at the hospital and her husband must be sending out a search party by now; but when she falters, Nico says he won’t let her drive in a state of shock and will driver her home.

At home, Tom rushes over to his desk, opens a drawer and then goes to the living room, removes a wall tile and opens Serena’s time capsule, he stuffs the evidence inside the teddy bear inside and gently places it behind the wall. While Nico drives Laura home, he keeps thinking of what Haskell said – “they stopped looking for me”. He feels it has nothing to do with Ruby but its about the police.

They arrive at Laura’s and Nico insists on escorting her to the door, they both try to convince themselves that its truly over. They ponder the last moments they have together. He says goodbye and walks away, she calls him back and wants to know what the guy did in the video. He says he was a meth dealer, the meth house went up in a fireball, he escaped but his girlfriend and kid didn’t survive and his hatred of the guy’s behavior got the best of him. She says she wouldn’t have kicked him off the force but put the guy away for murder.

Laura cuddles in bed with Serena as Tom looks on. Nico walks the streets and joins a couple homeless men for a few drinks. After Laura settles into bed with Tom, he asks if she got a look at the shooter and she begs him jut to hold her instead; apologizing how crazy she’s been with the story and he wants to know if its over for Nico Jackson too. He wants Laura to find everything she is searching for in Tom, they smile and kiss, falling asleep in each others arms. Nico returns home drunk and collapses on the couch, out cold drunk.

The following morning, Tom shows Laura she as 12 different messages from places that want to do interviews on what happened. Laura makes Tom promises he won’t tell them were she is hiding. He says she can’t hide, but they can run, change their names and blow this town, they are interrupted by cartoons and the knowledge that Serena is up. Just as they are about to resume their intimacy the news comes on about Haskell and Laura races to prevent Serena to hear it.

Jenny wakes up Nico up for the news, where they hear Haskell has sewn into his jacket the names of mothers who have abandoned their children and records show several of his victims have given up their children for adoption. Nico doesn’t know how to tell Ruby (Imogen Tear) the teacher she loves was a killing machine and Jenny says this is when her uncle should drop in on her niece.

Laura listens as Serena talks about her dream school; they bake together until Mara (Erica Carroll) calls. Laura gives in to an interview saying its no more than 3 minutes, no questions about Tom and the rest can suck eggs. She tells Mara she is on her way after she is done baking the cookies.

Nico arrives to see Ruby who is frustrated waiting for the new Jesse Reid (Drew Tanner). He presents her with the sweater Mimi made explaining she made every stitch with love for her little boy and hopes when Ruby wears it she will feel the love too. She gives him a big hug and thanks him; he apologizes about her teacher but Ruby is more focused on the video.

Grace Jackson (Catherine Barroll) witnesses the exchange and tells Nico he needs to help Danny for Ruby’s sake. Nico says he thinks it will be better this time. She tells him about seeing Susanna’s (Hilary Jardine) scarf hanging out the Price’s window like it was a toy. She insists its Susanna’s scarf and he orders her not to stalk the DA’s family. Inspector Kupner sends an urgent text and Nico reminds his mother to stay away from the DA’s family.

During a meeting, Tom is busy with his phone, after he sent the photo of the jewelry, the unknown person writes they are impressive and he has their attention; he asks if they can talk? After a few moments the person says they will get back to him.

Laura has her interview on KMSF News 10. She says she was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time. She cuts the interview short, visits with Serena but notices something wrong with Mara. She discovers Mara had an abortion but when she questions whether the father pressured her. She said he didn’t say it but if she didn’t she would be left twisting in the wind. Laura tells her she deserves better when she says she believes in the just of the universe and one day he will pay.

Nico sneaks up on Kupner “Cupcake” and asks him what his desire is. He wants to know if Nico observed anything off about the families viewing the jewelry the other night. Kupner tells him there is nothing funny about this a reveals the jewelry vanished, never making it to lock up. Sarneau arrives saying the victim’s brother was at a wedding in Carmel, he is in all the pictures and his motorcycle was stolen. Nico freaks out and says he has to go.

At the studio, Laura is reviewing footage, has a flashback and realizes that Haskell was already dead before her daughter was taken 8 days earlier. She tells Mara to not let Serena out of her sight and calls Nico, who is already racing down the hall to see her. He tells her the brother wasn’t the shooter and it was a decoy; she says its worse than that, Haskell was killed 5 days before Serena was killed the first time. She says the real killer is still out there and its not over!

Laura and Nico are looking through traffic cameras, they back track where the motorcycle came from; they find a wrist tattoo but need Jenny to clear up the shot. As they attempt to go further back, they realize someone is erasing the footage as they try to view it; someone else is in the system erasing it at the same speed they are trying to see everything.

Outside, Nicol finally realizes that the person who killed Haskell Debray also wants to kill Serena and they need help to figure out what happened. Laura says they need someone who has the best investigators in the state. Nico doesn’t look happy but they both go to see Laura’s husband and DA, Tom Price.

Laura tells Tom the only person who had the ability to access that footage are the police and the person who knew were Haskell was heading. Tom says that is a huge accusation but then she tells him the jewelry from Haskell’s apartment is also gone, never making it to police lock up. Laura says if he nails the dirty cop and gets him to talk, he can catch the man before he kills someone else. He smiles and agrees saying whatever was said will stay in this room.

Serena finds out that her idol Jesse Reid came to her father’s office and he never told her and Laura is shocked it happened too. Nico is about to leave when Tom stops him asking if there is anything he can do to ease his family’s pain and hopes he will not pursue anything through his wife, Laura. He says sure, as they both know how important it is to count on somebody.

Jenny says there is nothing there and Nico says somewhere out there there is a software that can un-blur that image, and a little girl’s life depends on it because in 5 days Serena Price dies.

Laura and Tom wake up with Serena in between them; Laura says she will go get them some chocolate croissants and Tom jokes she will have to learn to make them herself when they a re in Fiji. He tells her that he put his A+ investigators on it trying to assure her they will hear something soon.

When she returns with the drinks and food, she bumps into someone wearing a black helmet and leather jacket, she panics and races down the stairs to find out who that was but before she can see their face she sees them race off on a red motorbike. Serena says a messenger was there giving her husband, Tom a yellow envelop. She wants to know why an assassin would be delivering him a package in their home.

Tom says he will take this as a reaction from the trauma; he asks if she saw the face of the guy from the shooting and the guy of today. She says there was nothing distinctive of the helmets nor jackets and is a bit more at ease.

He shows her the box he got from work but knows that Serena said it was a yellow envelop. Laura acts sly and says she is expecting something from work and asks if he got anything for her? He says no, just the box. Once she leaves his office he retrieves the envelop and desperately shreds the contents. Meanwhile, at the hospital, Mimi flatlines.
