Tonight NBC’s brand new series TAKEN begins with Bryan Mills (Clive Standen) arriving on a train with his sister Cali Mills (Celeste Desjardins), signing their parents’ anniversary card. He jokes with Cali about the Taliban but is very aware of their surroundings, particularly two men who came to sit close to them.

Brian takes out his sister’s ear buds and orders her to argue with a passenger until he comes back or shouts out her name. If he shouts out her name she needs to crouch down and hide between the space of the two seats; she says he is scaring her but he tells her to do just ask he says.

As soon as she argues with the man, Bryan approaches the suspicious man, sees a gun, yells “Cali”, throws hot tea and grabs the gun and fires at the other man; killing him instantly. The second man and Bryan fight, someone pulls the emergency brakes. Bryan throws him down the stairs; there is a cop on the train but Bryan returns to find his sister, Cali dead.

Christian Hart (Jennifer Beals) receives a call, and she asks for just the headlines, while Bryan is riding in a truck with father. He finally arrives home, asking the media to leave his family alone; when he walks in the door, his mother, Sarah Mills (Victoria Snow) breaks down in his arms.

Christina meets with her team, they bring her up to speed on the case. There was total silence; but they bring out what they have on Bryan Mills who is military a Green Beret, did 3 tours in Afghanistan; she cuts them off saying this isn’t terrorist related.

Hart is then informed that his last job was to act as liasion to Columbian Special Forces to capture Carlos Meija (Romano Orzari) aka The Butcher, who was last seen 7 years ago. But according to CIA reports he is running weapons and drugs into the US at the last shipment, Carlos son, Miguel (Joel Labelle) was there and Bryan killed him saving a DEA Agent.

Christina thinks it is good that Meija isn’t going to stop until he kills Bryan. She says as of right now they can control the story and her staff needs to make sure the CIA, FBI, state and local law enforcement needs to be on the same page; the train attack was just two delusional maniacs and the investigation is on-going.

John (Gaius Charles) and his associate Becca arrive asking what the man has told police; he reveals he has said nothing. She says she doesn’t believe he will remain quiet forever, the state police are one thing but the type of people who are coming for him, even he doesn’t believe he will either.

Becca produces a pill, and asks if he really believed someone would come to rescue him. John holds him down as Becca places the pill above his mouth telling him his family will be sufficiently compensated for his sacrifice. He reveals that the mission was accomplished, that Bryan was to stay alive; he then learns that his life now hangs in their hands since they were law enforcement.

At Cali’s funeral service, Bryan notices Christina Hart at the back of the church, but neither him nor his father know who she is. Meanwhile, as people help set up the house for the reception, one of Christina’s associates sneaks up to Bryan’s room and plants a bug on his cellphone.

Asha (Brooklyn Sudano) approaches Bryan at home to tell him how much his sister always spoke of him; as his mother thanks Asha for her eulogy, he asks her if she recognizes the van outside; when she doesn’t he dashes from the house. He chases the van but it skids around the corner smashing him into another car.

He reveals to his father that Cali is dead because of him. He packs up, telling his dad to tell the police exactly what he just told him so they will protect his parents 24-7; meanwhile Christina and her team can hear everything going on, thanks to the bug they planted earlier. Bryan asks his dad to tell him mom goodbye and he is sorry; his dad presses him against the wall saying his mother cannot lose her son too.

Christina’s team is tracking him, but they argue over whether he should know what is happening, or continue with the operation with this being the best and only chance in 10 years of getting Meija alive. As Bryan travels he has flashbacks of killing Miguel, he returns to his own home, remembering his last conversation with Cali.

Christina’s men are watching Bryan’s house and notice the same van has driven by 2 times in the past 8-minutes. They report that they have a man and woman tourist and it looks like they have a ball-game. Bryan goes into his kitchen and retrieves two guns from under the sink, as he watches surveillance on his television. Christina’s team hear that he has caulked two guns and orders her people to not engage.

Bryan takes out most of them, the last one he tries to find out who sent them but he dies before hand. Bryan jumps in the car, with a bag of money; while one of Christina’s crew mutters, “dude has got some skills!”

Bryan checks into a motel, cleans and wraps the bullet wound on his leg; he continues to flash back to the mission when he killed Miguel. He calls DEA Agent Mike Hall (Kris Holden-Ried) and tells him to get his daughter, and go because if Meija is after him they are after Mike and his daughter too.

Mike agrees to pack up his daughter and go right away, instead Mike goes upstairs and sends a text to the phone Bryan has taken from the man trying to kill him; Christina’s team hears the vibrating and realize its not his own phone. Bryan gives him a location and Mike says he will call him when he is 30-minutes out.

Faaron (Simu Liu) is thinking out loud with Christina’s group and he doesn’t understand how Bryan would call to tell him his daughter is in danger but he is more concerned about Bryan than his own kid? John and his crew continue to follow Bryan, who sends Mike a message that the job is done; meaning he was killed by Meija’s men, who Mike was working with.

The following morning, Mike goes to open his trunk and Bryan grabs his gun and cuffs him; asking when he flipped sides. Bryan demands to know where Meija is, and Mike says the only person he is connected to is a lawyer in New York. They are chased through the parking lot by one of Meija’s thugs, when Bryan parks and when the man stops his car in front of the SUV, he shoots him in the head.

Mike asks Bryan how long he thinks he can keep running. He causes a chain reaction of car crashes and takes Mike into a building, finally being able to see who is all after them. Bryan takes him down an emergency staircase and into the subway tunnels below the city.

Bryan figures out that Mike never met his sister, Cali; he says she was beautiful and kind and smart. He points a gun and orders Mike to his knees as Mike prays he will never have to make the choice he had to; and his advice is to never have kids, especially a daughter. Bryan pulls the gun back and tells Mike to go to the third rail, he doesn’t want to hear, he just wants him gone.

Bryan turns around and shoots once, approaches them, throws down his weapon and says he is pretty sure he was told to be taken in alive. The search him and drop his phone, putting him in the back of van and injecting something into his neck. John finds Mike and informs him that the cartel have taken his daughter and show that he missed 7 calls from her school.

Christina sets everything up and Mike is given the chance to call Meija’s lawyer; telling him he doesn’t care if it is a secure line but he is going to call his client right now to get his daughter back. Once the lawyer hangs up on him, John and his team tells him they are the ones who took his daughter and she is fine; unlike him.

Bryan wakes up hanging by his hands in a barn, they open the barn doors to a cold wind and snow. The lawyer calls demanding to speak to his client Meija, but is informed he isn’t there yet, but he is in the air and will be there soon.

His plane lands and when he comes close, it is Carlos Meija, the same man who was on the train admiring his sister and giving him the anniversary card after his sister died. Meija says, ‘You killed my son,” and Bryan says, “You killed my sister!” Meija admits he did.

Bryan tells him his son died, with a gun to the head of a DEA agent, his sister died defenseless; he always wondered what kind of man does that make Meija; he says Meija has the eyes of a coward.

Just as Meija is about to gut Bryan with a knife, the military arrives and a gunfight ensues. Meija grabs Bryan and holds a gun to his head; Bryan orders them to kill Meija, when they don’t he tosses Meija over his back and points the gun at him. Meija says they want him alive; so they shoot Bryan instead and take Meija alive. Christina wants to know what happened to Mills?

Christina comes to see Bryan in the hospital, he remembers her from the funeral, asking who she is. She says the man who shot him works for her. She asks if he understands why they shot him?

Christina explains she is Christina Hart she is a deputy director with special portfolio at the office of the director of national intelligence. Bryan is furious that she used him and now she is going to tell him none of this just happened. She asks what Bryan believes in, and she sees that he is built and wired to protect others. She reminds him that he saved 91 other passengers but all he feels is he couldn’t save his sister.

She says they needed Carlos Meija alive because of all the intel they will gather from him, that is where national security will earn the real money. He realizes she is recruiting him; she says if he says no, none of this every happened and Cali died for nothing.
