The Young and the Restless spoilers tease that Billy (Jason Thompson) and Phyllis (Gina Tognoni) will be together after all. Yes, despite what was previously assumed, Philly will become Y&R’s next great super couple. All who emphatically oppose this development are already planning to riot across the soap world. Interestingly, they will be wearing tolerance t-shirts as those events unfold.
Hypocrisy is surely a charged word. Level it at any group and be ready to defend one’s stance. There is a case to be made for Billy and Phyllis, or Phyllis and Billy if one prefers. Minds that have advanced beyond childhood years and aren’t steeped purely in emotion are open to this suggestion.
Billis? What’s that? Well, mashing the first four letters of the name Billy and the last two letters of Phyllis’ name together creates that goofy nickname. Those who believe that females aren’t equal, but better than males would adamantly state Philly in reverse, while also shortening both eyelids for maximum effect as they did. Identically, those who believe that males are better than females would shout Billis as their perceived ideological counter.
Both factions would be acting like Reed (Tristan Lake Leabu) and Zoey (Annalisa Cochrane) if they insisted on using either modern moniker. Yes, adults who behave like teenagers are often raised by their children. Yes, that last line read right. These misguided followers do as they’re told and as the similar-minded friends do as well. They follow other such non-parents and allow soapy society to burn due to pervasive recklessness.
Look, Phyllis was kicked to the curb by Jack (Peter Bergman). Many don’t blame him. And Billy, well, Vickie (Amelia Heinle) had her tattooed wedding band removed awhile back. Like Jack, she appeared to be justified in that choice. Of course both conclusions could be painted as favoring a particular view of reality. And those observers could well be right, or left or in the middle. Savvy readers already saw the wink at that civic point earlier in this feature.
It is perfectly normal for any Y&R viewer to express an opinion, or many, about the fictional world on this show. No one watcher owns rights to a singular perception that all must adhere to.
Passion is key to making a regular time investment in this escapist form of entertainment. Regarding the unattached characters known as Philly, Billis or whatever, their lives are their business. All who have been sleepwalking through drastic changes in modern social discourse seem to be unaware of that timeless measure.
