The Young and the Restless spoilers tease that Graham (Max Shippee) could become Ashley’s (Eileen Davidson) next boyfriend if he proves not to be her brother. Yes, that last sentence could only be written in certain entertainment circumstances. Soap makes it okay in this instance.
Considering that Shippee posted on his Instagram page that he was working on Y&R’s set as of June 9, Graham is certain to remain linked to Genoa City until at least late July. That simple calculation is based upon the six weeks lag time from when soaps shoot until the scenes from that day’s episode are broadcast to North American fans.
Graham has been introduced in a purposely mysterious manner. One could argue that he’s just like the Abbott offspring. Graham began a relationship with mother Dina (Marla Adams) later in life. That’s why they’re close.
Then again, viewers could simply see Graham as a gold-digger. He took advantage of a lonely old woman who believes he’s protecting her. That implication has clearly been left open to interpretation.
Could Graham have Mergeron blood? Did Dina have him through an affair while she was in France? That was the case with Ashley’s (Eileen Davidson) conception, so it would be within Dina’s character to have done so twice. In either instance, Dina would naturally be hesitant to drop this news on the children she had through John (Jerry Douglas).
Assume that Graham is the Abbott’s half-brother. That could make him a fixture on Y&R for years to come. The financial implications of his biology would also be significant, as Dina just sold her corporation for buku bucks that will likely be evenly distributed among all her children and grandchildren.
If one opts for the cynical belief that Graham is purely watching over Dina because he wants her money, then he could easily be written out of the script at any point. If he’s not related to Dina and thus to the Abbott’s, then he could be a romantic option for Ashley. Painting him sincerely interested in Dina’s welfare could endear him to Davidson’s character.
Ravi (Abhi Sinha) worked hard to gain boyfriend consideration. Now that he’s achieved that and seems to be accepted by the fans, would Graham make sense for Ashley as well? Of course. Conflict is key to daytime drama. So Ashley can continue seeing Ravi, but also have her head turned by Graham this summer.
Shippee entered Y&R’s scenes softly. Graham was initially a man of few words, but has been speaking far more often lately. The writing staff is offering measured glimpses into his backstory, which makes him increasingly intriguing.
