The Young and the Restless spoilers documented the rise, apparent fall and unexpected resurrection of Philly. But now that Phyllis (Gina Tognoni) and Billy (Jason Thompson) have publicly declared their couple status, Jack (Peter Bergman) must look at himself. Always the competitor, will he actually conclude that having Gloria (Judith Chapman) as a consolation prize makes him a winner?
Phyllis and Billy shouldn’t have gotten together because Tognoni’s character was Mrs. Abbott at the time Philly formed. But they did connect and now both people are single. So their pairing this April isn’t nearly as controversial as the first incarnation of this duo was. Philly killed Phack, which can’t be denied.
As hardcore The Young and the Restless viewers recall, Billy targeted Phyllis because he wanted to hurt Jack where it hurt. However, his attraction to Phyllis was real and actually developed into a relationship. Now, they’re back together after a number of months apart. That was spurned by Vickie (Amelia Heinle) taking Billy for granted once too often.
Jack was wronged. But then he turned his hurt into a lifestyle choice. He began biting anyone that passed through the Genoa City jungle, even pairing with Gloria along the way. That choice easily became one of (if not) the most outrageous choice of his life.
Gloria truly loved John (Jerry Douglass), but Jack didn’t see it that way. He tagged her as a gold-digger. Both of Gloria’s marriages to his father were ruled invalid through Jack’s actions, which left her unable to collect any portion of John’s estate. That’s why her interest in Jack must be based on payback.
Jack is surely aware of what Gloria is likely doing, but thinks he can outsmart this nemesis (among many others). He’s playing a dangerous game, while also curiously not looking for a young babe to co-mingle his assets with. His final endgame is twisted, but not fully visible at this time.
While Gloria is attractive for her age, Jack has often gone younger. Plus Chapman’s character has no coin in her online bank accounts, or other financially desirable attributes. Her only apparent asset is a particularly devious mind that affords Jack a partner to aid him in his various revenge schemes. How long can that type of so-called couple last?
Unless factors change, Phyllis won the divorce. She’s happy and moving forward with a man, albeit Jack’s brother, who she actually loves. Jack is bitter and doesn’t love Gloria. He’s using her while she’s using him. That’s awful, which makes Jack the clear loser and a fool regardless of whatever personal grievances he might successfully pursue.
