The Young and the Restless spoilers tease that Lauren (Tracey Bregman) will soon shift from panic to joy. Scotty (Daniel Hall) will escape harm and later be revealed as Bella’s (Cali May Kinder) biological father. Chloe’s (Elizabeth Hendrickson) paternity secret will be divulged, unmasking an unexpected dad.
Co-executive producer and head writer Sally Sussman is already demonstrating that she and her team can master the art of the soapy deal. Writing back Y&R to a character-driven drama is what hardcore fans have wanted for years. Only faux detractors are claiming to dislike what’s transpiring across Genoa City since December. Transparent protesters, a gaggle which also includes those who aren’t familiar, or have somehow forgotten the history of this iconic CBS steamer.
So Chloe returned to town last year with Bella. At first blush savvy viewers understandably believed that she was likely Billy’s (Jason Thompson) daughter. That assumption was made because Chloe had absconded with her obsession’s genetic sample in the past, intending to have herself artificially inseminated.
It is believable that a grief-stricken mother would want to move forward in life and that she might choose pregnancy as a vehicle of hope. Of course daytime drama is allowed to offer the suspension of disbelief in order to advance storylines, thus Chloe acted as she did. Viewers nodded their heads, knowing that this character was behaving according to type.
The timeline of Chloe’s exit to a mental health facility in California (circa 2014) also coincided with a romantic encounter with her then-husband Kevin (Greg Rikaart). It was plausible to think Mrs. Fisher somehow conceived Bella and opted against the aforementioned medical procedure. But why would she have claimed certainty the Kevin wasn’t Bella’s father upon returning to GC in 2016?
The last question in the above paragraph opens a plot door. What if, while outside of Wisconsin, Chloe happened upon Scotty? That character was last seen in 2006. Hendrickson first embodied Chloe in 2008. The odds are remote that Chloe randomly connected with Billy’s genetic cousin, as Jill (Jess Walton) and Lauren are blood sisters. But again this is soap and therefore anything is possible.
If the fictionally possible occurred, Bella would resemble Delia. Obviously those girls would share the same mother, but they would also be linked to the same grandfather, Neil Fenmore (portrayed decades ago by Jim Storm). Viewers have never seen cousins who look similar, but have different fathers in real life?
Follow the bloodline: Delia to Billy to Jill to Neil. Bella to Scotty to Lauren to Neil as well. Yes it works, if Y&R has opted to write in this creative direction. And ask all who claim this theory is too much to take if they’ve been watching soaps for the past forty-plus years, or why they’re expecting something else from this great form of escapist entertainment.
