The Young and the Restless spoilers tease that the greatest villain in Genoa City history (Sheila Carter, played again by Kimberlin Brown) will not only return to the show, but will be linked to the resurrection of Adam Newman (reported to be played again by Michael Muhney). That boom readers just heard wasn’t a replay of the cabin explosion scene from last September. Instead, it was the start of a ratings’ blast that will take place later this summer.
Brown’s shocking return to Y&R’s spinoff show The Bold and the Beautiful happened on June 9. Superstar status secrecy measures were in place on B&B’s sound stage, which proved to be very effective as no reports of this return were present anywhere on the Internet. But wasn’t Sheila killed off in 2007 when the spectacular Michelle Stafford (Phyllis) was playing that character in a dual role? Yes, apparently.
Hey, so Lauren (Tracey Bregman) shot that version of Sheila dead. Adam survived a wicked car crash in 2014, and Chloe (Elizabeth Hendrickson) just played dead inside her own coffin. Sheila’s demise will be explained away through the wonders of a creative and motivated writing staff.
Of course some viewers will be chastised by their fellow soap fans for accepting the premise that a woman who was certainly dead would somehow show up alive in California 10 years later. Sheila wreaked havoc on the Forrester family after doing the same to the Fenmore and Grainger clans. Matters will be handled in Los Angeles before Miss Carter returns to Genoa City.
Savvy fans wondered if SORAS’d Scottie (Daniel Hall) meant that Sheila would also be back. Sure enough, Hall’s character is believed to be assigned to cover a fashion event that involves a Y&R to B&B crossover.
Nurse Carter’s obsession with Dr. Scott Grainger (Peter Barton) created plenty of mayhem a few decades ago and served to establish the ginormous personal war between her and Lauren. While Scott and Lauren were married, Sheila and Lauren claimed they were carrying Scott’s child.
Sheila’s child was stillborn, but she hid that fact. Carter’s character later switched Lauren’s newborn son with a baby she purchased through an underground source. That boy (Dylan) died shortly thereafter, while Sheila raised Scottie as her own for awhile.
Eventually Sheila’s mother Molly (Marilyn Alex) learned what happened, but she was rendered mute by a stroke. Molly regained her ability to communicate and told Lauren what happened. Sheila then held both women hostage. However, a fire engulfed the farmhouse where all characters were ‘living’. Sheila was thought to have died in those flames until she was seen again on B&B.
Sheila’s later incarnation on Y&R in the 2000’s was facilitated through massive plastic surgery. Both Brown and Stafford are very attractive, but the idea that one would morph into the other was ridiculous. To her great credit, Stafford played Sheila to the hilt during a brief run that ended with Lauren using a gun to shoot Phyllis’ doppelganger dead.
Y&R fans know that Gina Tognoni now embodies Phyllis. So the resemblance angle will likely be wished away as Sheila’s improbable resurrection occurs and the Adam tie-in takes place.
