The Young and the Restless Spoilers: Steve Burton's Final Scenes Play Out - Does Dylan Die Taking Down Luther Fisk

The Young and the Restless spoilers tease that Paul (Doug Davidson) and Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott) were telegraphing the looming sad exit of Dylan (Steve Burton) from Genoa City. How this character departs is yet to be known, but savvy Y&R viewers know that Burton already completed filming in December. His final scenes will be seen this month.

“Elvis has left the building,” Paul said. That text message was read to Nikki this week. It was sent by Kevin (Greg Rikaart), who was advising his boss (Paul), in code, that Dylan had just arrived in Miami.

The arc that sent Dylan on an undercover mission to Florida to bring down Luther Fisk, who is to be played by an as yet unconfirmed actor (possibly Walt Willey), strongly appears to be Burton’s last. Fisk is said to be a major drug dealer, whose organization Dylan will attempt to infiltrate.

It’s natural for both Paul and Nikki to be concerned about their son. Beyond the danger of his assignment, Dylan is still learning how to deal with the shock of Sully actually being Christian (Jude and Ozzy McGuigen) and therefore not being his son.

The oddity of Dylan not breaking from Sharon (Sharon Case) after that reveal took place was noticeable. Under normal soapy circumstances Shylan would have at least separated. In this instance, Dylan merely got mad and then mentally collapsed inside himself.

Fans of this show, or the genre in general, do wish Burton well on his new endeavors and know that he’s left Y&R on good terms. But it’s unfortunate to see a solid, likeable actor depart under any circumstances. His character was vulnerable, which made him appealing.

It would be easy to project Dylan’s death into the coming storyline. He could be killed, or go missing indefinitely. But possibly co-executive producer and head writer Sally Sussman won’t have this particular character written out in that manner.

Imagine a scenario where Dylan stops Luther and then returns to Genoa City. He then tells Sharon that he needs to leave town for another reason. That trip could be announced as temporary in order to regain a better frame of mind. Sharon might even set it up herself.

At a later point in time Dylan’s departure would then turn permanent, with Sharon returning from wherever he went to in the spring. She would then tell the other characters and the observing audience that Dylan was making progress in a veteran’s facility. Yes, his post-traumatic stress disorder will be treated indefinitely. No murder scene. Just a soft, open-ended farewell.
