Whoopi Goldberg Threatens to Leave "The View" If Demands Aren't Met

Whoopi Goldberg will leave the popular morning show “The View” if ABC is unable to meet her demands, according to a new report from Daily Mail.

For the past ten years, we have seen the EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony) winner as co-host and moderator of ABC’s long running female chat fest, “The View”. Whoopi is one of the most popular co-hosts in the long-running talk show’s history, which has seen a revolving door of female panelists in it’s 20-year history.

Viewers of the show were upset when Whoopi declared months ago that she would be stepping away after the show’s 20th season. Whoopi said at the time “I have to do it, because I have to go and grow. I got stuff to do. I got movies I need to direct. I got books I got to finish.”

Executives at ABC were especially upset because at the time Whoopi’s popularity was the one of the few positive things “The View” had going for it. The show was tanking in the ratings, and the ever rotating panel of new hosts failed to capture viewers’ interest. It is no wonder why the network executives want to keep her.

Apparently Whoopi is open to the idea of returning but she has very specific demands that must be met in order for her to stay. When Whoopi first started on the show, her salary was reportedly $5 million a year, but last year the show slashed it to $2 million. She is now asking for $3.5 million and will not take a penny less.

Reports indicate that Whoopi also wants an unnamed ABC executive on the show to be axed. She feels this person is the reason “The View” had suffered in the ratings because within three years the show had gone through nine former co-hosts, some of whom the audience couldn’t stand, namely Michelle Collins, Rosie Perez, and Candace Cameron Bure.

While Whoopi famously feuded with one co-host in particular, Rosie O’Donnell, resulting in Rosie quitting the show. Whoopi must also be given the title of executive producer. She feels that if she is a producer of the show, she can help eliminate bad decisions such as hiring panelists that may not be received well by the audience or the other co-hosts.

This season the show has rebounded in the ratings and viewers are actually happy with current hosting panel, so we will have to see if ABC feels it’s worth it to keep Whoopie or if they will try their luck with someone new.  Let us know what you think in the comments below and don’t forget to check CDL for more Whoopi Goldberg news and updates here.
