Ex-Idol Contestant Died After Being Struck By Car

A 25-year-old Allentown, Pa. woman and former contestant on the television show American Idol was struck by a car and killed in Seaside Heights early Saturday morning in an apparent homicide, authorities said.

Alexis Cohen was found dead at the edge of Dupont Avenue near Bay Boulevard at about 4 a.m., said Deputy Chief Michael Mohel of the Ocean County Prosecutors Office.

A driver and passenger noticed Cohen and called 911, Mohel said. Seaside Heights.  First Aid workers transported her to Community Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead at 6:30 a.m., he said.

An autopsy conducted Saturday afternoon revealed chest and abdominal injuries and a closed head injury caused by collision with a vehicle, Mohel said.   Police found Cohen’s car in a parking lot 300 yards away, Mohel said. Cohen auditioned for the seventh season of American Idol in Philadelphia in August of  2007, and the episode aired in January 2008. In it, she claimed ""I march to the beat of a different drummer.”

Videos of the angry rant she gave after being rejected by judges were widely circulated on the Internet. Cohen returned to audition for the eighth season of the show, but again failed to make it to the second round of judging.
