Angelina Jolie Calls Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart’s Relationship A Showmance

Angelina Jolie has come right out and said that Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewarts’s failed romance was fake right from the very start – that it was a showmance.  Angelina claims that the studio put the Twilight stars together and created a showmance to help promote the Twilight franchise.  Angelina also insists that Rob and Kristen made a mistake by following along with the studio’s pressure for them to become a couple.  Now that their relationship has been destroyed by Kristen getting caught cheating with Rupert Sanders, Angelina claims Rob and Kris are both suffering.

Angelina expressed herself on the Jolie Project Twitter account on August 31st and left no doubt that she believes that Rob and Kris played the game and are now paying the price.  Angie is convinced that Summit Entertainment convinced/bribed/cajoled the former couple to live up to the on-screen Twilight romance of Bella and Edward:

You play along when younger but end up realizing it’s a bad idea. Studios gain, but you don’t. (Kristen – Robert thing : classic)

Of course the implication here is that Rob and Kristen were not really in love and didn’t fall for one another through natural chemistry.  But the studio wanted to get the most bang for their buck and realized that the romantic element of Twilight would be sold most convincingly if the lead couple hooked up.  Rob and Kris were young and naïve and therefore easily influenced by money-grubbing Summit to live up fans’ expectations.  Next thing you know Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart were a ‘couple’ and gullible fans’ hearts melted.

I have said for the past 18 months that I thought the Rob and Kristen ‘romance’ was in fact a showmance. It’s nice to see that someone as experienced with Hollywood as Angelina Jolie agrees with me. Rob and Kristen were never really in love and her cheating scandal has freed them both from the studio’s clutches – no more romance, no more showmance.  Robert is just fine – and you can easily see from his recent TV appearances that he is feeling no pain.  In fact the dude has never looked better or acted happierKristen, however, is a mess.  But Kristen’s funk has little or nothing to do with heartbreak.  It has only to do with her pride, status, popularity, and career – all of which have taken a severe beating since the world got to see that she has the moral compass of a Michael Jackson.
