Fifty Shades of Grey took the literary world by whips and chains in 2012. The fictional novel has spent 37 weeks atop the New York Times Best Seller List and I can tell you first hand, it is indeed the talk of every schoolyard, where Mommies hangs around around. I do not know anyone that hasn’t checked in on and then become obsessed with the intricate lifestyle of Mr. Christian Grey. The novel recently took home the title prize for top fictional novel at the 2012 Specsavers National Book Awards in London, beating out the more uptight and refined workings of other British authors.
The novel has earned the description of “mommy porn” for its alleged popularity with women 30 years old and above. The book (as you already know) contains explicit sex scenes between 22-year-old virgin Anastasia Steele, and 27-year-old businessman Christian Grey. He seduces her into his raunchy, hidden lifestyle and involves her in his sexual underworld of bondage, dominance, submission, and sadomasochism.
There are three books in the series and now we are all waiting to see who will be cast in the film adaptation. Is Ian Somerhalder the perfect Christian, as some woman seem to believe? I’m not sure of casting, but I do know that in order for this book to really jump to life whoever plays Christian will just have to have IT. That calm cool, collected control that makes you want to hop out of your seat and do exactly what he says no questions asked. The book has won praise and literary awards and I can see the characters as I read. Now I want to see those same characters come to life onscreen, how about you!
