Bones Recap 10/2/14: Season 10 Episode 2 “The Lance to the Heart”

Sweets is dead and for some – that makes them regret even finding out about the conspiracy. Angela wants to go back. Back before the conspiracy came to dominate their lives and threatened their friends. Yet her husband has reminded her that they had to step in stop this thing.

The conspiracy might have started off small, but over time it eventually turned into a living organism. As in it kept growing and took on a life of its own. So with something as dangerous as that around – no one would have been safe.
Hotch helped Angela formulate a theory with all his talk of living organism. And while she was busy focusing in on it – Booth and his newest partner Special Agent James Aubrey decided to hunt for Sweets killer outside of the lab.

The two men came upon a familiar face when they found Sweets’s killer. Well, it was actual the body of their suspect seeing as someone had already gotten to him prior to their arrival. And James was able to identify their killer.

The deceased had trained with James. But according to James he was nearly kicked over incident involving a female cadet. Though the incident was soon swept under rug of course and his fellow trainee had allegedly gone on to work as SEAL. It seems that’s how Sweets’s killer was pulled into the conspiracy.
Angela’s theory was that one person was blackmailed and usually that person could be of use by providing another name that whoever was originally behind this could then manipulate. Hence the blackmailing and special favors would both ensnare and frighten all who would try to talk.

If they played their part then they would be rewarded and if they chose to speak they would this organization is so vast – they could never outrun all those they were planning on betraying. So just to get one of them to speak – Booth had to start threatening people. Because, truthfully, that’s the only language they speak!

Dr. Durant, the doctor that had kept lying to him last week (first about the homeless then about Cooper), finally pointed to someone higher up in the hierarchy. Which is all Booth ever wanted from him. However Booth was unable to question his lead because someone had warned him to keep quiet.

The reason Booth was given at the time was that the other man was a patriot. Meaning he was around from back when this whole thing began. This ring of blackmail and information gathering goes all the way back Hoover. During the days when anyone suspected of communism was considered a traitor – Hoover wiretapped everyone. Including the President. Then a successor was chosen when he died. And then that men died about sixteen years ago right when this web went viral.

There appeared to be no connected between Hoover’s heir, Desmond, and their number one suspect. But there was obvious clue as to who inherited Hoover’s files from Desmond – his stepson Durant. Durant grew up listening to old stories about Hoover and the only father had known was secretly training him to takeover. It’s just that once the files got passed to Durant – he didn’t use them for good.
Durant took his father’s files and enlarged them all so that it could serve him in the end. He allowed the rich to get away with whatever they wanted and killed anyone who threatened his power base. Like Cooper and Sweets!

But they caught him by first gathering evidence on Cooper’s death. Durant had accidentally injected his victim with both a toxin and with his own DNA. And as for destroying his blackmailing – Sweets, as it turns out, helped them with that part.
Durant had grown so cocky he kept his files, the dangerous one, at the Jeffersonian in the Hoover exhibit. With the files and the DNA – the team ensured Durant wouldn’t be able to get off on the multiple accounts of murder. And with Durant gone from the picture – it was time to say goodbye to Sweets.

Cam had planned his funeral and in the end they said goodbye to him as only they could!

The End!
