Tonight’s episode of Chicago Fire kicks off with Cruz, Mouch, and Otis shopping for food trucks online for Sherman. Cruz pitched the idea to Sherman, but they had no idea how expensive it was going to be. An emergency call comes in and they all rush to the fire truck and head out. While they are racing to the fire they notice Welch and his fire company racing a street over from them. Casey tells Cruz not to race them and says he isn’t in the mood for a “pissing contest.” As they are crossing an intersection, Welch’s truck comes out of nowhere at full speed and T-bones them. Both fire trucks flip and the firefighters go flying.

Kelley, Mills, and Tony arrive at the scene of the accident and radio in for help. They start climbing in to Cruz’s truck and helping everyone out. Cruz is trapped, and Mouch’s face is covered in blood but he is conscious. They head over to Welch’s truck and start helping them out of the truck, they are more banged up than Kelly’s men, the driver is unconscious. Sylvie and Dawson arrive with the ambulance and begin working on Welch’s men. While they are taking care of everyone, the men who are okay are all blaming each other for the wreck.

Chief Wallace arrives and demands to know what happened, Cruz insists that they had the light and it was green, there was no way he ran a red light. The police arrive and force Crus to take a Breathalyzer, while Welch is loading his men into an ambulance he walks by Cruz and screams to him that this is all his fault. Meanwhile, Mills who wasn’t even in the accident, is standing on a truck trying to pry one of the wrecked doors open and he passes out and face dives in to the pavement.

Everyone heads to the hospital to wait and see how the guys that are in the accident are. A doctor cleans up Mouch, and the doctor reassures him that after they get his eye cleaned out he will be able to see again. The Chief quizzes Casey about the accident, and Casey says he wasn’t looking at the light, but he trusts Cruz. The problem is, the other driver from the ambulance is unconscious, there were no witnesses, and no traffic cams.

Everyone heads back to the fire station, Chief Boden informs them that they are all done with their shift and have to go home. They have brought in replacements for the day. Boden heads in to the bathroom and runs in to Mills. He wants to talk about Peter getting in touch with his Dad’s family. Boden reveals that his dad always wanted to patch up the bad blood with his family and wanted his children to know where they came from.

Dawson and Casey finally get a moment alone, and Casey has news for her, right before the accident he made a deal with Boden. Casey and Boden decided to make Dawson their candidate for their truck, but before he has a chance to tell her that if she joins they can’t get married.

Casey and Cruz are leaving and Boden and Chief Tyburg stop them. They have footage from a different traffic light one block before the light where they got in the accident, and they have video of Cruz running the red light. Chief Tyburg tells Cruz he should get a lawyer, if the other truck’s driver doesn’t pull through this then he is going to be charged with manslaughter.

At home Dawson and Casey discuss her joining the fire truck as a candidate. She realizes that if she joins they will have to put their wedding hold for a year until after her candidacy was over. Casey reassures her that it is the best idea.

The next day they all head to the hospital to check in on the driver of the other truck, Molina. Molina is out of surgery, but they still have him in a medical coma because of his brain swelling. Cruz tries to talk to Welch and offer his condolences, but Welch doesn’t want to hear it and says it is his fault. Sherman interrupts and says they are all concerned about Molina and offers to hold a benefit for his family at his restaurant Molly’s. After Welch and his men leave, Casey tells Cruz to be the bigger man and leave the hospital. As he is storming out the door he finds Kelley sitting outside. Kelly says he can’t go to another line of duty funeral.

Meanwhile, Mills heads to his doctor to get a check-up because he keeps passing out. The doctor reveals that he has Vertigo from the explosion in the building. The doctor reveals that he can’t clear him to work, he isn’t allowed on ladders, in water, or on top of buildings. He tells Mills he is going to have to find another line of work.

The next day Cruz heads in to work, Casey reveals that Cruz’s driving privileges have been suspended until the investigation is over and Otis is going to be the new driver. Mouch shows up to visit them with an eye-patch on, he’s not cleared for work but he wants to see him. Kelly can’t find Mills anywhere, Chief Boden reveals that he failed his physical and he is off the squad. Kelly tries to call Mills, but he doesn’t pick up.

Dawson pays Chief Boden a visit and thanks him for putting her up for candidacy. She reassures him that her relationship with Casey won’t get in the way, and they are taking it very serious. In the break-room Sherman is planning the party for Welch’s driver Molina at Molly’s. Newhouse pulls up in the parking lot and surprises Cruz and Mouch with a food truck, he says they can have it if they get him 20% of Molly’s.

Mills goes to the retirement home to see his grandfather Leonard. He learns from the orderly that he has Stage IV cancer. He expects his grandfather to be racist, but instead he hugs him and tells him that he is glad to get to know him.

It’s time for the benefit at Molly’s for Welch’s firefighter Molina. Dawson tells Otis, Mouch, and Cruz that she and Casey are going to “break up” and they are shocked, but then she laughs and adds “but on the bright side I’ll be joining you on Truck 81.” Sherman turns off the music and makes an announcement revealing that Jason Molina is awake and talking at the hospital, Cruz breathes a sigh of relief since now he can’t be charged with manslaughter.

After the benefit, they all head to the hospital to see Molina. Chief Boden and Chief Tyburg reveal that Cruz is off the hook and Molina confesses to running the light, he says that Welch told him to beat Cruz’s truck and run the light no matter what. Afterwards Casey tells Tyburg that they are moving Dawson up to their truck, so Mills asks Boden if he can sign on as a paramedic and take her place.
