Weaver is with them. They discuss that they’re on the most wanted list because of crisping the overlord. Weaver says he thought he saw something behind them. Tom asks what’s the matter when they stare at him. Hal knocks him down because there are laser sight son his head. He calls out that cochise is expecting them and then he introduces his second Shak-chic.

Cochise says he’s glad to see them free and he says he has 71 people. Cochise says he has found Matt in a training camp in the north that houses only children. Weaver whistles and the other humans run up to the facility. Matt is brought food and Kent tells him he believes in his potential. Matt asks hw he can side with them and Kent says there were just defending themselves.

Kent says the world was a mess before they came and the Espheni offered them a chance to start over. He says the humans attacked the without provocation. He asks him for the names of who tried to escape. He says he needs to let go of the fantasy of a child’s world. Kent leaves and locks him in hi cell.

Cochise tells Tom and Hal they’ve been using tiny airborn recon drones and tells him that’s how he found Matt. He tells Tom it’s a day’s walk on foot. Weaver tells him that he hasn’t been the same since he lost Jeanne. Tom tells Hal he’s in charge of getting the 2nd Mass back to fighting strength while they’re gone. He tells them to stay put and under cover. He tells Hal they’ll be back in 48 either way.

Something is watching Tom and Weaver with Cochise. Weaver hears a noise and pulls his knife to look around. He alerts them and Cochise says that Weaver is being erratic. Weaver approaches the hiding space but Tom tells him they have to go. He walks away and says he’ll take point.

Lexi picks flowers and tells Anne that everything they grow has a purpose. Anne says the Espheni will destroy them once they find them and Lexi says they’re pacifists. Anne says six months ago she was just a little girl and Lexi tells her not to blame herself and says she knows she did her best. Lexi says her path is set. Anthony and Lourdes argue because he doesn’t want to give up his guns.

Anne tells him to take it outside the perimeter and Lexi thanks her for understanding. At Cochise’s place, they have the generator set up and Hal runs through the list of what they need. He asks some of the local residents to help them scrounge for fuel, medicine and water. One women says there is an organic farm not too far away. Hal says it’s risky and they’ll wait. Pope isn’t having it and takes off in the only running truck while Hal yells at him to stop.

The mystery creature is watching Weaver, Tom and Cochise. They don’t see any kids and Tom says it’s like they’re pulling a page from the Hitler Youth handbook. Weaver reminds him that wasn’t a winning playbook. They agree to go inside the fence after dark. Cochise says they’re tired but Tom says he can’t rest with Matt in there. The mystery creature attacks Cochise and he says it had venom.

He’s struggling to breathe and Tom tells him to hang on. Cochise says he’ll go into a regenerative state and will heal in a couple of hours. He essentially shuts himself down. Weaver says he should be all right and Tom says he hopes so. Weaver says he thinks he saw the creature back in the ghetto. Tom asks why he didn’t tell him before and Weaver says he wasn’t sure of it.

Tom tells him they need to focus on getting Matt back and asks if he can count on him. Weaver says he has his back. Dingaan tells Hal he was searching the government utility band and heard this. It’s an announcement on a loop about a place of peace where all will be safe. He says it’s a day’s march to the west. Hal says he knows her voice – he says it’s Lourdes. Dingaan asks if she’s someone he trusts.

Before he can answer, Tector comes and tells him the Volm, led by Shak-chic, are packing up to go because the Espheni are intensifying their search for them. He says they’ll be there within 24 hours. Dingann suggests going to the safe haven but Hal says they have to wait on his dad. Tector tells him that according to the Volm, staying there is not an option.

Pope speeds along in the truck then pulls up to a house. He hops out and checks out some gas cans he sees lying around. He says he struck oil when he sees a lot of cans. He goes to the truck and ducks down to open the tailgate and barely misses getting shot in the head by a woman. He says he just needs some fuel. He says if she’ll let him take some fuel, he’ll tell her what’s what.

She pulls her gun and says he’s not touching out. She offers him to talk it out over a beer and that stops him in his tracks. She says it’s warm and he says no thanks but she says it’s not a request. They go inside and she asks why they want her fuel. He gulps the beer and thanks her. He tells her they’re holed up and their generator is running low.

He asks if it’s her place and she says she’s a squatter. She tells him she hated life before and the apocalypse has been the best thing to happen to her. Pope says he knows the feeling. She says she does what she wants, takes what she wants and lives each day as if it’s her last. She tells him she’s going to take his truck. He tells her he’s funny and he stands.

He staggers and she tells him the guy who owned the farmhouse must have had a bad back because he had a cabinet full of pills. He passes out and she tells him sweet dreams and leaves. Ben tells Anne he knows it’s a shock and she says she doesn’t know what Lexi is. Ben says Lexi is meeting with and Espheni and she told them that she brokered a truce with them and that’s why this place is off the radar.

Anne asks if Lourdes and the others know and the others tell her that they all think she’s a messiah. Anne is ready to go blow this thing away. Ben says this can be an opportunity to find out what Karen did to her and why and Anne agrees and says fine but they need to do it her way.

Pope wakes up and finds he’s tied up. She’s still packing up and says she meant to be gone by now. Lights flare in the yard – it’s mechs – and Pope tells her that he’s her only shot to survive. She tells him her name is Sarah. He tells her killing the is what he does.

Tom and Weaver enter the fence at the camp and creep around. They avoid the creatures strolling around and head into the building. Tom looks around for Matt. He wakes up a kid and tells him he’s looking for Matt. The kid gets up and blows a whistle. Other kids follow suit and Weaver tells Tom they have to get out.

Pope tells Sarah they have to move. She tells him mech isn’t a very original name. He tells her if they live she can make up a new one. He asks for the keys but she says she’s driving.

Mira runs into them and asks if they’re looking for Matt. Weaver says he’ll stay in the corridor and watch his back. He sees some drops of blood and then is snatched out of the hallway by something. Meanwhile Tom follows Mira. Kent comes into Matt’s cell and tells him there are intruders there asking for him. He asks what he had to do with it. They struggle and then Tom is there and beats Kent.

Matt finally gets him to stop. They hug. Mira is at the door and Matt runs to hug her. Tom takes Kent’s weapon and tells him – let’s go home. They run out. Dingaan tells Hal that staying up won’t make things go faster. He says it’s a habit from his family. He asks Dingaan if they should still be there when Tom gets back and they muse about what the Volm told Tector.

Dingaan says sometimes you have to make the hard calls. Hal says he made the wrong call escaping Charleston and a man died – Henry – who had fought in World War II. Dingaan tells him they had a saying when he played rugby – don’t think about the game you lost last week, just think about he game you’re in.

Mira and Matt ask Tom if they need to wait for Weaver but he says they planned to rendezvous at the camp. They try to figure out how to get out and Mira says she’ll distract them so they can get out. Matt isn’t happy but she runs off blowing her whistle. Tom promises they’ll come back for the others.

Weaver wakes in the woods and sees the creature. He says – oh no. It comes closer and it says “daddy” and he says “Jeanne.” She leaps over him and kills another creature to protect her dad. Weaver runs to help as she loses the upper hand. He stabs the creature that was huting her. She’s wounded and he tells her to hang on. He sees her face and says he knew it was her. He strokes her face and holds her.

Pope and Sarah drive away and then she stops and says it’s time to part ways. She pulls her gun on him again and tells him not to tempt her. He took her ammo when she was distracted and he says he’s taking the truck and the fuel. She says she knows karate and he tells her BS. He tells her to hit the road and says he’ll toss her shells a quarter mile up the road.

Sarah asks if he’s going to really leave her there to be raped and eaten by cannibals not necessarily in that order. He tells her to get in. Hal tells the others that they need to pack up to be ready to go at first light to the source of the transmission he says they can trust. Pope pulls up and Hall chews him for disobeying a direct order and says he almost got left behind.

Sarah hops out and chews Hal and asks who elected him mayor and reminds him those jobs don’t exist anymore. Hal says he appreciates what he did but not how he did it. He asks where he found her and Pope says at the farm. He says there is a whole army of mechs heading this way and says they have to head out now.

Anne finds Lexi and tells her she knows what’s going on. She asks why Lexi didn’t tell her and she says she didn’t want her to be afraid of her. She says she’s meeting with the Espheni to keep them all safe. Anne asks to talk to the Espheni and says that he’s using Lexi. Lexi says she’ll kill him. Anne says she won’t and Lexi tells her not to lie.

The Espheni is nearby and speaks through Ben. He says he is working for a greater food and calls her mother. He walks up and she says she knows him. She tells him that he’s the one that experimented on Lexi and made her what she is. Anne calls for Anthony to restrain him. Lexi tells her if she breaks the pact all she’s worked for will be destroyed.

Lexi freaks out and channels some sort of power. The Espheni tells her to stop and just let them take him. He tells her not to give into their ways. Ben tells him to stay away from his sister.

Hal sprays a message on the wall for his dead. He says it’s something his dad, a history professor will understand, but the Espheni won’t. He’s spray painted Croatoan. That’s the message the Roanoke left when they abandoned their early American colony. Shak-chic tells Hal the path to the West is clear. The Volm are going with them but says it was purely a strategic decision. They head out in vehicles and on foot.

Cochise tells Tom he is well enough to travel. They hear a noise and it’s Weaver. He collapses in the camp and tells them she’s gone. He says Tom is right and that they’re turning them into something else. He says the abomination that attacked them was Jeanne. He cries and tells Tom she’s gone. He says he saw her die. He cried. He says she was still in there and she saved his life.

Weaver says this plan to turn us into monsters is flawed. He says they can’t erase us. Weaver stands and says they can’t control them and Jeanne showed him that. He says she was a fighter until the end. He says it’s better that she’s gone than to have to live like that. Matt hugs him and Weaver is happy to see him. He hugs him and tells him it’s good to have him back.

Scorch (aka Geminus) searches the area where the survivors were. He crushes a handful of dirt in his hand until it turns red then uses it to communicate with another. Geminus is asked if his experiment has failed yet. He tells the other creature that he will take great pleasure in burning Toms slowly. The other tells him he can take comfort in knowing that Tom’s daughter will become a more powerful weapon than any other.

He tells Geminus she obeys his will in all things. He says once she is mature, the transformation will begin. They talk some more alien smack talk. Back in the moment, Lexi walks up to her Espheni sweetie and smiles at him.

THE END!
