It’s been a week since Finch’s disappearance and his friends miss him. Shaw and Reece are still going about their everyday heroics, but they need Finch. Reece just isn’t as good a substitute as he would wish.

Though they understand why Finch hasn’t made contact. Root stopped by to tell them about the growing threat. It seems Decima is using the Samaritan to track them down and the teams they’re sending out look more like hit squads.

Root is doing her best to keep Reece and Shaw off the grid, but its no good when her own boss continues to hand out irrelevant numbers. Reece was passing by a pay phone when it began to ring for him. Root wanted to ignore it and yet the guys couldn’t resist. Finch taught them that each life mattered so they’re not going to give up their day jobs simply because someone is hunting them.

So Root asked for a name rather than a number from the Machine. And she was told the victim would be Grace. As in Grace Hendricks otherwise known as Finch’s former fiancée and the love of his life.

Decima has already ignored several prime terrorist hiding out in the states in order to focus all their man power on Finch. So when Reece and Shaw came out of hiding to save Grace from them – it alerted Decima to both their position and to Grace’s importance. Now their focus is entirely on Grace seeing as she is the weakest link.

The others are trained and she’s just an average Joe. Even the guys thought so and that’s why they took her to Fusco at the police station. It was the safest place they could think of.

Root showed up a few minutes later to help. She got herself arrested and once inside had Fusco free her.

It didn’t take long for Root to concoct a getaway plan for Grace. But the Machine can only help them so much. The same intel she’s giving Root (i.e. the security cameras) are the exact resources Decima is using to track them – which why they probably made it a block with Grace in tow before she was kidnapped by Decima.

Grace was with Decima for a while. And amazingly they never hurt her. It seems they learned it was easier to attract bees with honey rather than vinegar. They wanted to know why she was important and couldn’t find anything through their own reconnaissance. For all appearances, Grace didn’t have a lot going for her. Yet when she mentioned (of her own volition) her former fiancée that tragically died then that’s when she became useful.

Decima never let on that they knew about her Harold – they simply let Grace talk about her once in a lifetime relationship. She told them how she and Finch fell in love. How they came to rely on each other more than any other person.

Then when she was done; they treated her like a honored guest. And Grace was that if nothing else. She’s the only thing they have that holds any significance to Finch.

Root, Shaw, and Reece tried to find her and they failed.

The closet they came to finding Grace was finding one of the operation rooms to the Samaritan. But it was run by a man loyal to Decima so he was willing to die rather than give up the organization’s secrets.

Although Decima did leave behind a message. They wanted a trade and were prepared to let Grace go… as long as they got Finch in return. However Reece and Shaw were concerned about the conditions. Mainly because they didn’t know where Finch was to even agree to such a deal.

And this is where Finch surprises them. He’s been monitoring Grace from afar. It was him that arranged her new job in Italy. He wanted to get out in time before Decima could find her, but once he found out that his plan failed he then chose to come out of hiding.

Finch wants to make the trade. It seems he loved Grace too much to ever leave her in the wrong hands. Finch’s friends on the other hand didn’t want to make that deal. They didn’t want lose Finch.

But they went along with him and Finch did trade himself in for Grace’s life. And thankfully Decima took the time to blindfold Grace throughout the exchange. They later explained to Finch that they didn’t want to get off the wrong foot with him and that’s why they protected his memory with Grace.

She’ll never know that Finch is still alive and that he’s going to be staying that way for a while even as she continues to grieve.

It appears that Decima doesn’t want to kill Finch nor are they planning to in the near future. The truth is they want use him. And “for what” has yet to be determined. But whatever the case may be – Reece and Shaw or going to stop them. Root had offered them a chance to keep fighting. She found several of the Samaritan’s servers and with it they can do a whole lot of damage.
