Days of Our Lives (DOOL) Spoilers: Heartbreaking Exits and Creeping Dread Stalk Salem

Days of Our Lives spoilers review the week that was and the DOOL implications for the the week of August 24-28. Last week was marked by sadness and danger in the town of Salem. Sonny Kiriakis (Freddy Smith) had a final confrontation with his husband will (Guy Wilson) about his duplicitous actions toward Sonny’s ex Paul Norita (Christopher Sean). When Will came home determined to beat Paul to the punch and inform Sonny about what he had done in giving information to Derek (Spencer Neville) to help him get Paul’s attention Sonny decided he needed to leave.

He took a job offered to him by him by his uncle Victor (John Aniston) managing clubs all over Europe. The first person to learn this was his ex-Paul; whom he ran into while he was out walking and trying to clear his head. The two exes had an intense conversation during which Paul confessed to still having feelings for Sonny and Sonny admitted that he was confused as to how he felt about both Paul and Will.

The next people to find out about Sonny’s decision to leave were his parents Justin (Wally Kurth) and Adrienne (Judi Evans). Sonny asked them to drive him to the airport then went home to pack and that is where Will found him and Sonny informed his husband lastly that he needed some space and that he was leaving because he needed time and space in order to sort out his feelings and to try and fix their family.

This goodbye failed on multiple levels. Even though fans knew it was coming it was sure to be a let down. It was so rushed and anticlimactic. Yes Sonny’s leaving was expected, but the writers could have put a bit more thought into it. Given fans more of a pop than what they got. Also why was Paul the first one to hear the news? As Sonny’s husband didn’t will at least deserve the respect of hearing the news of Sonny’s leaving first?

Aiden (Daniel Cosgrove) was attacked at the Salem Inn while having a romantic get away with Hope Brady (Kristian Alfonso). It happened while Hope had gone to the hospital to see Caroline (Peggy McCoy). Aiden opened the door and was brutally beaten up by Clyde Weston (James Read). Clyde was angry because Aiden had discovered incriminating information about him that if released could land Clyde in prison; possibly for life.

When Hope returned to the room Aiden was bloody and badly beaten up. She called John (Drake Hoegstyn) and he and Marlena (Deidre Hall) showed up at the scene. After taking Aiden’s statement which gave them little evidence – everyone left. Hope told Aiden that she wanted to take him home with her and Aiden told her that there was no place that he would rather be. When they got to the house Aiden told Hope that he had paid to have Clyde investigated for her and the investigator had found nothing. Hope told Aiden that she loved him for coming out of his own pocket to help her and they went upstairs where she saw further evidence of his beating in bruises that were forming on his chest and ribs. Later Aiden climbed out of bed and met up with Clyde outside of Hope’s house and the two men had another confrontation where Clyde gave Aiden another warning but he also told him that he got the feeling that there was more to Aiden than he thought.

This storyline works but it had a few issues. One of the biggest issues was the way they dressed Hope. What cop goes to work in a three piece suit and pearls? If crime had happened that simply would not have been believable. Also she seemed to have been wearing the same outfit for two or three days. Why not have her change into something more casual when she ran out to visit Caroline? Do any of these women own jeans and blouses or t shirts? Instead she was dressed like a grandmother.

One of the good things about this storyline is that it is allowing Hope to move on. Even though there are rumors that Aiden is leaving the show Hope has moved on from Bo (Peter Reckell). That relationship had left her without a viable love interest for a long time and this new storyline has pushed Hope’s character back into the lime light. It is good to see her happy again.

Rafe Hernandez (Galen Gering) had his own confrontation with Clyde Weston this week. Clyde came into the club owned by Victor Kiriakis that Rafe manages and confronted him about the state of his life. Rafe and Clyde went back and forth with Clyde telling Rafe that he was a loser because he was alone and that Clyde was the better man because he was in bed with Rafe’s ex Kate (Lauren Koslow). The confrontation was really a lot of back and forth trading of insults and the end result was Rafe deciding to rejoin the police force.

This was pretty boring although it did lead to a major life decision for Rafe whose character has seriously been struggling since he lost his badge after the ordeal that sent his sister to prison. Other than that this character has had no real luck. He has had failed relationships with Sami Brady Dimera (Allison Sweeny) and Jordan Ridgeway (Chrishell Stauss) and Kate Roberts.
