“General Hospital” spoilers and coming and going news tease that there is another new face in Port Charles. GH fans were shocked on Wednesday, January 28th when Dr. Kevin Collins made a rare appearance – and was not played by actor Jon Lindstrom! Lindstrom has played the part of “Doc” on “General Hospital” off and on since he debuted back in 1993, the character exited in 1997, but then returned again in 2004, and in 2013. However, on January 28th when Carly visited Dr. Kevin Collins – the character was being played by an unfamiliar face, actor Tony Stark.
So, where is Jon Lindstrom? Well, according to “General Hospital” spoilers for Soap Opera Digest via Soap Opera Spy, Lindstrom was unavailable to shoot his scenes in Port Charles because he was away working on another TV show, he has been tapped to star in Season 2 of HBO’s popular television series True Detective. Landing a role on the critically acclaimed prime-time TV show True Detective is huge for Lindstrom – and it’s no wonder he put “General Hospital” on the backburner seeing as how he hasn’t had a decent storyline in months.
Although TPTB at “General Hospital” insist that Tony Stark’s portrayal of Dr. Kevin Collins is temporary, we wouldn’t even blame Jon Lindstrom if he didn’t return. The GH writers have not given him any good material on the ABC soap in months, it’s no wonder he went looking for other work. If his run on HBO’s True Detective is a success, it is only going to open up doors to more opportunities for the actor – and he may never return to Port Charles. The GH cast is so large, that this seems to happening time and time again. There are so many characters on the ABC soap, that it is nearly impossible for them all to get a chance to shine – so they are walking and pursuing other projects left and right. Jon Lindstrom isn’t the first GH actor to walk because of lack of storylines in 2015, and at this rate he certainly won’t be the last.
What do you think, GH fans? Do you think Tony Stark is a decent Kevin Collins recast? Will Jon Lindstrom actually return to “General Hospital” after his time on True Detective is over? Do you blame him for pursuing other gigs? Let us know what you think in the comments below and don’t forget to check CDL tomorrow for more “General Hospital” spoilers and news.
