Selena Gomez got no screen time during Justin Bieber’s VMA performance – and she is not happy about it. Justin Bieber performed live on the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards stage for the first time in two years, and his performance was an emotional one. Biebs sang his new single “What Do You Mean” and followed it with his song “Where Are You Now.” He ended his performance with an aerial show, suspended above the crowd and appearing to be flying – Justin Bieber got emotional and began crying when he was done singing, which only made his big comeback even more intense.
Both Justin’s songs, “What Do You Mean” and “Where Are You Now” are reportedly about his ex-girlfriend Selena Gomez. Ironically, Selena was watching on from the crowd while he sang them – but the cameras didn’t pan in on her once. Yet, MTV zoomed in on her in her set multiple times through the rest of the night. It was obvious that they went out of their way NOT to get a shot of her during Justin’s performance.
Selena Gomez is currently promoting her new album “Revival,” which has an October release date. The “Good For You” singer has been opening up about her relationship with Justin in basically every interview and has admitted that a majority of the songs on her new album were about her relationship with him. Biebs grew tired of Selena using him to promote her music, especially after she totally dissed him a few months ago when they were hooking up again.
Sources say that Justin’s stipulations with MTV were that they didn’t mention Selena Gomez in any regards to his performance – he didn’t want to give her any more free press and publicity for her new album. An insider close to the VMA production team dished to CDL, “Justin had complete creative control over his performance. He knew his worth, and that MTV would agree to anything to get him back on the stage – his comeback was going to be huge. So, he told them he didn’t want his name associated with Selena at all, nor were they allowed to play up the whole “diss song” thing between them.”
It sounds like Biebs is going out of his way to make sure Selena doesn’t get any more free publicity from their break-up. Of course, Selena was counting on using their relationship and Jelena fans to promote her new album – so he is hitting her right where it hurts. Do you think Justin is just being paranoid?
