Kate Middleton and Prince William were all set to host a BAFTA pre-party with several BAFTA nominees, but they were conspicuously AWOL during the little soiree hosted at Kensington Palace this weekend. Despite reports that Kate and Will would make an appearance at the event – considering that William is a patron of BAFTA – the two were nowhere to be found. Suspicion is that Kate Middleton’s baby bump and weight gain 6 months into her second pregnancy made The Duchess of Cambridge to shy to attend.
Despite Hello Magazine publishing a report about how Kate and Will were expected to show up, they quickly changed their story to reflect the fact that Prince William and Kate Middleton were absolutely nowhere to be found during the BAFTA pre-party – which Reese Witherspoon reiterated. In an interview with BBC, Reese mentioned, “My mother kept texting me, ‘Did you meet the Queen? Was Kate there? No, Mum, I don’t think they’re coming to the BAFTA pre-party.'”
Both Kate and Will were also missing from the actual BAFTA Awards, which they have attended in the past. It’s not clear exactly why they were missing, but it might have had something to do with Kate’s growing baby bump. We already know that she’s fairly conscious of her increasing weight gain and baby bump, and she might not have felt comfortable posing on the red carpet next to all those starving, skinny actresses. Plus, the simple fact of the matter is that Kate and Will have been making appearance after appearance over the past month, largely as pawns to distract from all the royal scandals the British monarchy has found themselves in [most notably the Prince Andrew underage sex scandal].
At the end of the day, Kate and Will might have been too tired to make an appearance. Plus, there’s no way Kate would have wanted to be photographed against the elite of Hollywood when she was sporting a giant baby bump and she’s months away from giving birth.
What do you guys think? Why did Kate Middleton and Prince William avoid the BAFTA pre-party, despite rumors that they would make it? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
