Meri is seeking a divorce on tonight’s all new episode of “Sister Wives” and it’s not for the reasons you would think she would. Apparently, Meri doesn’t want to leaave her family. She does however wants to make room for Robyn’s children and that can only be possible if Robyn legally marries Kody.

As many know, Robyn has children from a previous marriage and although the children live primarily with her and her family – the Browns do not have any legal ground to keep the kids if something were to happen to Robyn. So Meri wants to change that. And unfortunately the only legal course ahead is divorce.

If Kody and Robyn were legally married then that gives him rights as a stepfather and it would be easier for him to go on to eventually adopt her kids. But when Meri initially said the “D” word, no matter her reasoning, she had scared the living daylights out of her husband Kody. Because he then had to ask if they were still going to be married and that she wasn’t in fact breaking up with him.

So Meri has to reassure Kody. She had to tell him that she was going to be just like Janelle and Christine now. And their marriage was also going to be a purely spiritual one instead of technically the legal one they’ve had for over twenty years.

Though, Kody is essentially not going to be the toughest person to convince. While the word divorce did trip him up some, he still knows that they as a family can handle this change in the dynamics. Janelle and Christine on the other hand are going to be the ones that takes the news the hardest.

You see, as the first wife, Meri was the one in charge if something ever happened to Kody. Meaning if he were to get sick or possibly die then it would fall on Meri to protect her sister wives. Yet, regardless of what Meri believes or if Robyn really is up to the task; what Janelle and Christine feel or fear is entirely up to them. And they don’t have to like this idea if in the end it makes them uncomfortable.

Hence, when the ladies were told, their reactions were very telling. Christine was actually excited about the kids getting adopted and quite vocal about it. The kids it seems is what was the most important to her out of the whole conversation. All she cared about is that the children were going to be permanently part of their family and as for the rest – it didn’t even filter for her.

Janelle, though, was pretty quiet about everything and even after she made a joke about tax season – her sister wives could tell she wasn’t taking the news well.

Janelle loves Robyn’s kids and they were sure she was happy about the upcoming adoption but it was the divorce bit that was getting to her. So, later, Kody went over to Janelle’s and had a chat. He wanted to see if could clear up any misunderstandings and put his wife at ease. Yet, that’s couldn’t really do because Janelle told him her insecurities are something that just has to be worked out in time.

She feels like this shift in who is legally married to Kody is going to be affecting all of them so until she sees for herself that everything has stayed the same – Janelle is always going to have her doubts about the divorce and remarriage. She doesn’t want to wake up one and find out that Robyn has basically become Kody’s favorite.

And as for the divorce, Meri wasn’t as calm about it when it became a reality. She was fine with initiating things but on the day she had to sign the papers – she was shaky on her feet and was left in tears by the end. So even though she said it was only paper – it did hurt when she got legally divorced.

THE END!
